  1. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

Slight correction. Reinhardt is in the NAIA. Kennesaw is in the Big South which is FCS (Is that right?) anyway they are ranked number 15th in that division FWIW. There is "no excuse for this not being a blowout" Indeed. I think 4 or 5 touchdowns will suffice with allowances for the Owls...
  2. Rewatched the 1st quarter of the NIU game last night and...

More than likely. Sims missed two TDs that had he hit them the whole complexion of the game would have been changed. A NIU team down a couple of touchdowns would have been reduced from a snarling mad dog like Husky into a yapping Yorkie.
  3. The Vote of Confidence is in...

After three years a transition should have been completed at least to the point of defensive backs knowing where they are supposed to be lined up and not arguing with each other.
  4. The Vote of Confidence is in...

I was around during the Ross years and his initial struggles was all on the players. They did not like him or his methods and made no bones about it. But Bobby Ross like Charley Pell at Florida was not going to put up with losing or a don't care attitude. He changed the culture and got his...
  5. Rewatched the 1st quarter of the NIU game last night and...

Oh, I think they played good but this is in no way a team that should be within four touchdowns of a reasonably well prepared and talented (so we are told) Tech team.
  6. Sims Injury?

In a superficial sort of way, it reminded me of when the much heralded "X Man" arrived at FSU to much fanfare. He was a Parade All American in both football and basketball as well as being named the much coveted "Mr. Football" for Florida. I only saw him play once against UNC and he actually...
  7. Sims Injury?

"...prisoners of the moment..." I like that. It pretty much describes how I am after a Tech game. Probably more so if I see the game in person, an increasingly rare event these days, and then watch it at home two or three times. The "moment" as it were becomes extended much to the...
  8. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

Take it easy. They are not better than NIU based on what I saw of the Reinhardt game. We will blow them out by four or five touchdowns IF we are aggressive and attack the "bone" much like Duke used to do to us. What we do not want, is a repeat of the Citadel game when stupid penalties...
  9. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

You should be proud. They gave Kennesaw all they wanted. Reinhardt must do a good job looking for athletes in metro Atlanta that are not wanted by other schools and coaching them up. There is plenty of football talent in metro Atlanta for small schools to build a program.
  10. Rewatched the 1st quarter of the NIU game last night and...

Like you, a second viewing changed my mind...but in the opposite direction. Northern Illinois was actually worse than they appeared to be in person. I am glad that some people are encouraged with a second viewing but my reaction to a second, actually third viewing, was that we got beat by a...
  11. Money Down Poll

In all the time I was going to the Florida games with my buddies in the 1990s and 2000s even with 80,000 plus I never thought it was particularly loud except when they start booing officials. The students would not get there until about midway through the first quarter and if they got bored...
  12. Game 2 #KSUvsGT Media

When Erk Russell was Dooly's defensive coordinator at UGA back in the 60s and 70s he was butt heads in practice to the point of blood flowing down his bald head. I don't know if it was playing around but UGA had effective defenses without a huge amount of talent in those days. At least, they...
  13. Game 2 #KSUvsGT Media

He will be like Charlie Weiss sitting at a table in a televised interview making sure his Super Bowl ring was front and center.
  14. Game 2 #KSUvsGT Media

Schultz said this? Interesting. I honestly don't know what to make of it especially the last part. It seems almost out of character for him.
  15. RB Participation

Straight T is what Dodd ran in the 1950s until the advent of the Split T in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Of course when your 3 backs are Leon Hardeman, Billy Teas, and Glenn Turner it is an easy offense to run with lots of misdirection, counters, and sweeps. Dodd often had them flood a zone...
  16. RB Participation

Gibbs has more sheer ability than any back we have had in a long time going back to Dwyer and Choice. That said, with the game on the line in the fourth quarter the man I want to tote the mail is Mason. It is just that simple.
  17. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

I would be willing to bet Coach McKay was wondering why did I leave USC for this aggravation? As for Brian Kelly, well at least they won even if it did not look too good in the fourth quarter.
  18. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

The operative word in your last sentence is "SHOULD" but I agree. Scheme cannot make up for a huge mismatch on both lines. If I were Thacker, I would take a page from Cutliff's playbook and assign my best athlete, say Charlie Thomas or one of the safeties to shoot the gap every play. See...
  19. In all seriousness if we lose next week how bad will it get?

I have a young man at church who recently played at Birmingham Southern. They did not give out scholarships and had over 50 people on the team. They played in what used to be called NCAA Division III, it may still be for all I know. Maybe we can get in their league next year if this thing...
  20. Sims Injury?

Wake quarterbacks really hold that ball a long time in the mesh which as I think you meant to say "freezes" the linebackers. I don't know though if our quarterbacks want to trust their life and limb to an offensive line that has way too many matador blocks.
