I will admit that I am also concerned about Marshall long term. He isn't a very good passer and he isn't making very good reads. The fact that the A-backs are pretty much invisible is a little frustrating. Lynch has -3 yards on 3 carries in the last two games. He is too good for those kind of numbers. Marshall and the coaches have to improve that. Im not sure what you do going forward though. We are still trying to make a bowl game. I think we will have to ride it out with Marshall and hope he improves. If he doesn't then the QB competition should be wide open going into next year.

I think it's pretty clear that this is the least dangerous our passing and perimeter attack has been in the last 10 years. I hope the young guys can really step up for next year and win the job. I like TaQuon a lot as a player but I just don't think he has the tools to completely utilize the qb position to the amount we need it to be. I would love to see him go back to A back because I think he is extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands. He showed in his limited time there in 2015 he can catch as well so I think he could be a really strong asset in that position. I wouldn't even mind him getting a shot at kick returns if he wasn't the QB. He seems to have a good knack of squirming out extra yards or twisting himself around hits. Our return game is so vanilla right now I'd like to see what he could do there.

Yep. Unless you have a truly dominant OL to run behind, being that 1 dimensional means you are not going to beat many teams in D1.

Play calling has been incredibly stale the last two games. Do we have any routes in our passing tree that are not vertical? Do we ever attempt a 5 or 10 yard hitch on 3rd down? Are we capable of doing that?

There is definitely some truth in that statement. While I said above that I wanted to see Jay Jones at QB, in truth I want the best QB to play and I know I don’t really know who that is. But I do find myself questioning whether CPJ cares enough about passing to play a better passer at QB who is slower and less explosive than Marshall.

I have to agree with some of the posters above that TM is not running the O well. I feel his athletic ability overshadowed a lot of that at the beginning of the season but now it's starting to catch up. He kind of reminds me of Vad Lee back there, being very tentative. Felt Jordan should have played from mid first quarter of Clemson but he is out now so that's a mute point. Also, in our offense, with the limited amount of passes, the QB needs to hit the open receiver. TM has not shown he can do this so this continues to stack the box with limited respect for the pass by the defenses. Also, sometimes you just need to try a different QB to change the chemistry/energy of a team. I don't know enough about Jay or Lucas, but it would be worth a shot to play one of them. Think TM would do well going back to A back and returning kickoffs, bc that's another big weakness on our team.

I admit that CPJ strikes me as very .....stubborn, I guess. Like a baseball manager who pulls his pitcher who has retired 8 in a row simply because it’s the 9th inning and we gotta use our closer.....he runs things “by the book”. I have no confidences that CPJ will do anything other than continue to try to run things with these players....no real changes, nothing innovative or daring or really out-of-left-Field stuff.

Oh well.

It is what it is. Amirite?

I would definitely have to agree with you. I keep hoping he will surprise us one of these days.

Several of the posters here seem to have extensive knowledge of CPJ's tenure at GaSo. Just curious to know what the QB transitions were like during Paul's tenure there. Was it "plug and play" or was there a period of adjustment and transition from one to another? Was it such that GaSo had the other pieces in place (D,ST) to smooth out the transition and make it less painful?

Sorry man, he is not a good kickoff returner. He gets to the pile and looks like he just wants to fall down. I have watched him miss some gaps were there to get past at least the 25 and in the same tone you better have some elusiveness if you are going to return kickoffs and he doesn't have that either.

The ol has issues with pressing defense That can run down the play from the backside.
The right side seems slow on the right side without Bryan.
(Coaches seem to want to start larger guys. (
When we pull right guard and tackle they take too long to get to point of attack.
At the start of second half the left guard tackle came around a great great set of down blocks by rg and rt. ( see tennesse game) . They came so fast AND qb just got right with them and shoot by into the open.

I am not in the slightest ready to give up on t q, but I would like for coach to play some of the younger guys on the called plays.

He's averaging 21 yards/return. Our opponents are averaging 24.8. Looks to me if he's getting every yard he can given the opponent's # is inflated a bit by a 92 KO for a TD. A returner can't do s**t without a little blocking ahead of him.
