There is a time and place for dancing. Anyone remember our VT upset in 2010? Sidelines were definitely dancing that night. Losing to the Citadel is not the time to be dancing.

Look, this was my complaint about CPJ as well. If you are going to be TO, you should commit to be the absolute best in the world at it. And we didn't. He should have replaced a number of staff (IMO) to get there. But he ultimately "satisfied" himself that they were ok.

I learned this lesson over and over. Define the operating model (in our case, the offense or game approach) and get damn good at it.

The only thing with CPJ is I don't think he had the money available, so he sucked it up and did what he could. Also wonder if some were forced on him. But I will agree he was a stubborn old coot. ;)

This is where I misunderstood you and where I think your business analogy breaks down. You can't manage a couple 10ths of a second off a guy's 40 time or make an O-lineman's arms 2 inches longer by having a firm plan. You can make players bigger and stronger to a point, but better athletes win.

You never have enough resources. Re CPJ, he was an offensive genius. Which also makes him a defensive genius. Did he hold his D accountable? I don't know ... but it looks like he tolerated it rather than challenged it to the max. But ... I don't know.

Like I said, you can catch a team napping once in a blue moon. On the whole, we 100 percent need better athletes to compete at a higher level.

I don't disagree with that in general but ... most offenses break down because of the coaching, and not the players. I've personally seen both businesses and sports teams succeed with no changes except for the management (or coaching) team.

Tech never led...the entire game...against FCS team that was 0-2. That isn’t being caught napping. That’s getting whipped by an inferior team.

Tell me again about not being able to beat Duke.

Maybe. If putting Jordan Mason at QB meant winning the game would that have been the best choice for the longterm good of the program?

Oliver isn't a QB in any system that's not the TO and continuing to play him there is putting a bandaid on a wound that needs about 40 stitches. Oliver needs to play his long term position, and someone who will still be a QB in two years needs to take the reps at QB. If we need to wildcat 100% of the time to beat Citadel then we aren't doing anything the rest of the year anyways.
