It’s a tricky proposition no doubt. There’s a lot of money to be made by moving up the draft board. Moving up a round or two could mean an extra $1M in annual contract and another $500k-$1M in guaranteed signing bonus. Lock in 1st round at the bottom & he could make $3M/yr and another $5M signing guaranteed. This is a big decision for Gibbs and if he makes the right choice is worth a lot of money.

Don’t forget the income tax formula in LA. State, local, and federal income taxes. Take home wages are about 25% of gross. The COL is outrageous!

Good for Choice. I doubt he stays there long as I would imagine he's well set to be OC if he wants it somewhere within a few years. Might be that he is more interested in a HC position instead in which case being a position coach at USC is more likely to get him noticed for lower HC positions than a position coach at GT, especially in the current climate.

Anyways, no matter how many fond memories I have of him or how good he was as a position coach, he was still just a position coach. Generally speaking you shouldn't really expect to keep good position coaches that long. It is a stepping stone position. Does open the door for the new OC to bring in another offensive assistant to help which could be useful as well.

Agreed in all aspects. Can they immediately salvage his recruiting prowess on this short notice? That is the immediate concern.

This was just a matter of time. Choice is literally one of the best assistant coaches in the business...and he's a Broyles award finalist which supports it. On top of that, he is clearly an elite recruiter.

We've talked about this many times...the big money schools were going to come for Choice eventually. Here we are.

If you look at this objectively, this is a great career move for TC. He's going to coach and learn under one of the premier offensive minds in all of football. Only a handful of coaches get this opportunity. If TC wants to be a head coach, he has to take this job.

TC is well liked by a lot of people that give GT a lot of money. This isn't a GT money issue...we would've gotten the money needed to keep him. GT just can't replicate the experience he'll get and offensive coaching development under Lincoln Riley.

I wish TC well. He was outstanding in his 3 years here. Something tells me his coaching career at GT isn't over yet. TC is taking the next step in his coaching development, and he'll be more than ready next time Ma Tech calls on him...whether that's as an OC or HC.

USC is known to provide housing along with substantial other benefits to their coaches. I'd be shocked if they didn't set him up with something nice.

These houses are cheap compared to what some of the houses in my rural GA county are going for.

I wouldn’t go by housing prices. I’ve lived in different parts of the country and COL is always a trade off and NEVER an apples to oranges comparison. Things that I have underestimated in the past that put a serious dent in my wallet, one way or another, included things like access to airports with direct flights, closest theaters, hospitals with specialists on staff, good public schools, weather patterns, diversity of the population and education level, cost of utilities, access to parks and public places, mass transit, high speed internet, etc, etc, etc.

It wasn’t a lot a couple decades ago and I doubt it has gotten much better.

Will miss seeing CTC on the sidelines but am happy for him regardless. Well deserved and timing is never good - so I’m glad it worked out for him.

He is a good dude and USC just got a fan from me over night. I’ll pull for them anytime they’re not playing us!
