IMHO, I don't think we stand much of a chance vs Miami. We have a better shot at UGA, and even that's a longshot. NCSt is the most winnable game left on the schedule, but again, the special teams has to improve.

After saying all this, I want to be clear - I'm not gloomy about 6-6. I have seen some progression with the program and I believe Brent Key is the right guy. Santucci has shown me enough that I'm still cautiously optimistic about the future of our D. I'd like to see Buster show a little more aggression - seems like the offense has become less aggressive - fewer big plays, but fewer turnovers.

Given the schedule and preseason predictions, we are exactly where we thought we'd be. But, given the way things have played out, there's a cloud of disappointment over this fanbase because of what folks feel this season could have been. I'm not sure if it's reasonable to feel that way, but I'm choosing to hold onto the positives I see. Coach Key, J Batt, and Dr. Cabrera have injected new life into this program and things are trending in the right direction. Get your butts to the stadium - show up and support the team - buy tickets, donate to the Tech Way and AT Fund, do your part...

Amen to all of this.

Several predicted that we could have a vastly improved team but not have improved results because of a very difficult schedule. So far that appears to be the case.

Like you, I like our coaching staff and look forward, just like with Stoudamire in basketball, to Key getting his kind of players into the program. If he can keep working the portal, continue to improve Tech recruiting, and get NIL support, the future is bright.

I am with Fred and am more optimistic about Miami than most. Can Ward is a very good QB, but he can throw picks. They’ll score, but they’ll get frustrated if we play a grinding ball control game. If they get frustrated, Ward could make a couple of mistakes. Voila, GT could sneak out a 35-32 type win.

College football is more about matchups and I feel like we match up better against Miami than most. In fact I like our chances against Miami more than I do this weekend against VPISU.

Of course. All that may mean nothing and we may get beat by Miami 55-17. LOL

It’s Miami, anything is possible. I never count out Miami as a possible win.

But do we have grinding style point to increase the 17. Also dont they get deductions for excessive gash plays. Also i think we get an allowance for our special teams.

To win like you predict, we NEED TO PLAN FOR SOME IMPDRFDCT PLAYER ERRORS AND TRY TO GET AHEAD.
If we use the ND game plan shere pyron was very often allowed to throw intermediate downfield passss, we can score and STAY WITH THEM inspite of errors on fefense and special teams.

In 24 so far before we regularly try down field passes, Key has waited till we are way behind and they just force us to go long or very short. Then guys make a mistake and we all hear " se were close but to many mistakes"

Before he was hammered in unc we have a very experienced qb that can read the field, is accurate, AND CAN SCRAMBLE FOR BIG YARD.

I’m with this. Miami was 4-0 world beaters last year when we went down there after losing to BGSU. It was over for us, until it wasn’t.

Beat VPI with controversy. THEY WERE DOWN 35-10 AT TERRIBLE CAL. Yes, coming back from that is impressive. Beat UL by 7. Didn’t they get some love in that one as well? Thought I heard that.

And I agree they can beat us 55-17. If we have our full squad at home, they don’t scare me that much. The refs bailing them out if it’s close, like they’ve continued to do, scares me more.

Miami is gonna slip up. Why not us?

I watched the wrecktalk interview with the retired ref who has written a book " Saturdays in the South". He talked about his opinion on the Miami-VT and Texas-UGA controversial calls. In his opinion the VT pass play should have been called a TD or incomplete immediately on the field. Then it could have been reviewed and potentially overturned based on the video. It was a big blunder by the officials. I suspect it should have been called a TD and then reviewed. So Miami should have a loss but they don't. He also said the TX call was corrected but took too long. The ref was behind the play and was blocked so he couldn't see the pushing by the WR who had not turned to look for the ball.

They should've called it immediately yes, but the call at the end of the day being incomplete was right. The ball was touched by a defender out of bounds when nobody else had possession, that results in a immediate dead ball like on kickoffs. The call was right.

Not the point. It should have been called one way or the other and then reviewed.

I don't think we are all that improved much less "vastly improved". I just don't see it. I put 6 wins with a win over NC State but we could drop all five and finish 5-7. Both lines are mediocre, the open field tackling is historically poor, special teams are a disaster. The one thing in our favor is that both Virginia Tech and NC State are winnable games if we play well. Neither team will turn our game into a track meet, neither team's quarterback is impressive, Virginia Tech's offensive line is not any better than ours and their defense would have Bud Foster go screaming into the night. We will see.
