It's a little nitpicky, but again the ability to manage expectations. so...

Since 1983(1st year in ACC), 32 years.
number of times 8 wins or more- 12, 38%
bowl win-10, 32%
both-7, 22%
beat dogs? 9, 28%
8 wins, bowl win, beat UGA? 4 times 12%
so Probably a great season to do all three right? I mean at least top 6 in last 32 years
more...
over last 33 years GT has been 56.2 % which is 35/114 schools, only schools better in Conference? FSU, MIAMI, CLEMSON

in CPJ era, 58.5. still 35/114 , only schools better in conference, FSU, CLEMSON, VT, and LOUISVILLE.

and in the lies, damned lies and statistics category...if you make the teams have a 106 games played minimum for the CPJ era, GT is 15/114 schools.

Coachbraun question for ya. In your honest opinion do we have some exceptional talent on offense and defense? I say yes but, I have seen others post about the jimmies and joes.

Typical GT season: Win a game or two against teams we are not supposed to beat (hopefully UGA this year), and lose a game or two against teams we should beat.

As it stands, the rest of our schedule:

Should beat:
GA Southern
Duke
UVA

Will not be favored:
Pitt
UNC
VA Tech
UGA

Hopefully we can sweep the "should beat" teams, and go at worst 2-2 against the "will not be favored" teams (with UGA being one of them). That would put us at 8-4. At worst, we should be 7-5 and going to a bowl game. The key is to sweep the "should beat" teams. If we trip up against one of them, it may not be a pretty ending.

and since I am running this into the ground...
GT has historically averaged 7.11 wins a season which makes it 26/114
if you were to average 8 wins a season, you are now 12/114.
and if you average 9 (75%) wins a season, you are the greatest team of all time...ever (ND 73.2%)

If both GT and UGA are 7-4 going into their game in Athens i think it could very well be a toss up.

I agree. I said 9-3 and the schedule is going as realistically thought. Pitt may have a Sr QB and experienced Oline but there is no Tyler Boyd. I expect us to load up the box and force WR to a make play (sounds familiar). Only team that gives me trepidation is UNC bc I'm not sure we have the margin of error to be in a shootout with out any one

Agree, I'm not sure that we are consistent enough (too many opportunities for drive-killers on death marches) or explosive enough on offense to survive a shootout with UNC

I believe that GT has provided their student athletes the opportunities to do the most with the talents they have been given, both on and off the field. We have not had an instance where we have regretted the decisions made by either boy, and feel that GT was the best way to steward all their talents.
I have met fine Men who were part of the GT program, whose talents on and off the gridiron were impressive.
It pains me over the last 5 years to see the effort it takes to be competitive as a GT student-athlete be dismissed because of W-L, or Bowl Wins. The inability of former players to recognize that Graduation Rates and GPA's also need to be taken into account in the success of a program. We as GT supporters should more than any other school not fall victim to the Win-Loss trap. The Losses to FSU in ACC title games for example, a picture of student-athletes pulling together, battling against overwhelming odds, and coming through it, bloody, beaten, yet unbowed.

So, yeah there is some exceptional talent on these GT teams, and sometimes they go 3-9, sometimes they go 11-3.

But, hey if you need wins and losses, well...Alabama has a huge stadium.

btw-We MAY be in a bad spot. Why are we 8 pt dogs if we SHOULD beat Pitt
Love to see it but won't be expecting a win. Sorry, dude.

I am sorry. But my expectation as a program is to be ahead of pitt hence we should beat them. Vegas odds mean squat to that point. If as a program we continually lose to pitt and duke and we no longer should beat them we are in real trouble. Unfortunately. Thats the way we appear to be progressing.

Just because a vegas odd comes out that means nothing about where you should be as a state of a program. Vegas odds are a single game betting line with all sorts of bizarre factors. Gt should beat pitt period. I didnt say we will be favored. I Dont care who is favored. But we should be a program that beats pitt.

I said our program should go 3-0 vs the next 3 teams and i feel that way as a gt fan. Our program and team this year should expect that. Vegas odds just suggest pitt wins. Ok so what. Vegas odds suggest crap all the time. Gt should beat pitt. Will we who knows. We need to expect more from this program.

Would you mind providing your evaluations on which games you anticipate us losing and the why behind that decision? Just curious.
I see 7 games that are all as winnable as they are losable. So we may be 3-9 in 2 months. Or just as likely, be 10-2.

I'm not sure how after 5 games you are sure that our season is doomed? We beat 3 bad teams, lost to 1 really good team, and beat ourselves against an above average to good team. Clean up the mistakes and i still see a salvagable 8 win season.

Well, you asked for it....
Here is my thinking (and I sincerely hope I get the opportunity to be pummeled with a wet noodle for being terribly wrong):
(1) @Pitt-L...Pitt has solid offense, they have scored tons of points on just about everyone so far. 38 vs Okal State, 36 vs UNC, 42 vs Penn State...hard for me to see us holding them under those kind of numbers, a sI believe our defense is exceptionally vulnerable to short passes, screens and passes to backs out of the backfield, which is Pitts passing game.

(2) Georgia Southern-?? These guys ain't chopped liver. They'll be VERY fired up to come into Atlanta and steal one. They are MUCH better than Mercer imho. It is intrinsically difficult for a team like GT to get very fired up, especially after 3 losses in a row, for a team like Ga Southern. This becomes an upset alert

(3) Bye-we've got this one. I am sure we won't lose, in any event

(4) Duke-W This game does scare me considering we have lost to this team two years in a row (or is it 3?). We should beat them, though, so I will chalk this one up as a win. But anyone who can go into South Bend and spot Notre Dame 14 points and then come back and beat them has some talent, even though ND sucks this year.

(5)-@UNC L These guys are very strong offensively, and will score on us. They have scored on pretty much everyone after their season opening yuck out against the Dawgs. They also believe and have learned how to win close games. The have won twice in a row in the final seconds, scoring 37 and 38 points, iirc. Of course, their defense is not that great either. This is one where we have a chance IF our offensive execution is near perfect....and by that I mean long grinding drives resulting in TD's to limit possessions. But still, on the road with a team I don't think has learned to win yet against a team in the hunt for the Coastal title...you gotta like their chances.

(6) @VT L Seriously? VT has just scored 49 on BC and 52 on East Carolina...two pretty solid defenses. And it's in Blacksburg. And they will be gunning for the Coastal crown. This one won't be close.

(7) Virginia-?? These guys started very slowly but they do have new coaches this year, solid coaches based on their resume. They surprised with a win over previously unbeaten Central Michigan (don't laugh, that's a decent team with wins over Oklahoma State and UNLV). They just nailed Duke on the road by 14. They seem to be improving. If our season has been spiraling out of control, with 2 lousy road losses in a row and nothing much left to play for, they could catch us.

(8) @ UGa ?? This is one that totally depends. I actually think we could beat them this year...in terms of talent and performance thus far. It is hard to say what the mindset of these two teams will be by them. BUT, UGa has a pathetically easy second half schedule (that gauntlet of South Carolina, Vandy, Kentucky, Auburn and UL-Lafayette is going to make for 5 easy wins...leaving them only one tough game vs Florida) so they will likely come in 8-3 or 7-4, feeling good about themselves and optimistic for next season. If we come in down and out, we lose. If we somehow manage to turn things around and I am wrong about a couple or three games, I think we can pick 'em off.

I see 3 almost certain losses, 3 real ?? and 1 W. If we drop one of the two ?? games, and are 5-6 going into Athens, I think we lose. That's how I get to 5-7 as a real possibility.

I think UGAG will lose to Florida and Auburn and will be 7-4 going into the game with GT
