I dont think in Roof's defense he designates his safeties as strong or free.

What's wrong with the fat immovable 300 plus lb run stuffer? Is that a NO in this defense?

You're too focused on weight...there is more to that in football. TJ Barnes was in the 360 range at Tech and got moved around with ease...For example Gotsis dropped weight and added on muscle last year and performed at a higher level.

I think Golden will end up at corner too sadly. I think he plays safety so much better but unless Durham can prove something, I don't think anyone else is capable of starting opposite White (who I'm not completely sold on either).

Haha I agree on every one of these.

Kevin Robbins is someone I really like and think will win the job. Stargel is the other guy I think about.

Marcordes has been doing better and better.

I dont see Custis taking the job from Laskey.

Demond is someone who I am not as sure about in the secondary as the others but I think he starts now as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Autry beats out Waller when it is all said and done. The competition there should be good. Waller should win but is going to work for it if he does.

Biggest wild card to me is Travin Henry. Wouldn't surprise me if he started at some point...but shot in the dark there.

I can't wait for the spring man. I'm sure our picks will change then.

CPJ says he's going to play the best 4 defensive lineman and the best 4 defensive backs. DB will be tough. Noble, Smith, Milton, White, Golden, and Johnson will all be competing. Not so sure Isaiah Johnson and Golden will be starting.

I also think people are underrating Thomas O'Reilly. O'Reilly was ranked the #8 OG by ESPN in high school. He backed up Finch this year, but if Burden starts at center, then O'Reilly could play guard opposite of Devine. O'Reilly is huge too. Burden seems to be closer with alot of the of the offensive players though.
O'Reilly had some pretty good film in the game action he saw last year. We could do a lot worse at center. He is big and he can stand some people up. I dunno about guard though, with all that pulling. I have a small sample size to work with in terms of plays watched, but I wonder, does he have the feet for guard? I don't think he moved quite as well as Finch, but he was pretty strong in there.

We are close in our estimations. Assuming the lineup looks like this, I would like to see the 2nd team getting snaps in the 1st half of each game.

O'Reilly has a lot of potential but has not been in good shape since he has been here. I'm hoping the opportunity to start will motivate him to work extra hard this off season to get in top notch shape. Burden is good but has zero experience and probably needs another year of maturity. He also had a significant knee injury and probably will not be at full speed the early part of the season. You may see some of the guards shift over to center if O'Reilly and Burden are not top notch. The center is the quarterback of the offensive line. You need that guy to be the leader and be able to call the blocking schemes and communicate effectively with the other offensive linemen. That weighs against an inexperienced person getting the start at that position. Tech enjoys a long legacy of great centers and I mean really great players, All Americans. It is a position that carries a great deal of historic significance for Georgia Tech. Any man that claims the honor of being the starting center at Georgia Tech should know that they have a high standard to aspire to. I trust that our coaching staff enforces this fact with anyone who wants to claim the position at Georgia Tech. I'm hoping we find the right man to take the mantle.

Go Jackets!

Here is my projected starting line up for 2014;

C- O'Reilly
G - Mason, Braun
T - Roberts, Brigham
A - Hill, Days
QB - Thomas
B - Laskey
WR - Smelter, Waller

DE - Stargel, Robbins or Whitehead
DT - Gotsis, Green
OLB - Nealy, Davis
ILB - Hunt-Days
CB - White, Golden
S - Johnson, Smith

LS - Tobin
K -Butker
P - Rodwell

Guys that could break through Commissong and Akins at DT, Freeman at DE, Hankins and Harrell at ILB, Marcodes at OLB, Milton at CB, Griffin and Noble at S; Byerly at QB, Burden at C, Devine at G, Griffin at T, Custis at B, Perkins and Andrews at A and A. Autry and Summers at WR.

I look for Travin Henry and possibly Hunt Days to move to DE to help bolster that positon.

We actually have more depth than last year but have some real question marks at DE, QB, Center and Tackle.

Go Jackets!
