Case in point is the 4th down catch against Miami that cost us the game. The dude was double covered with aggressive pass defenders and made an amazing circus catch. Throw that ball into that coverage 100 times and he might catch it 2 or 3 times, yet we immediately blamed the D for letting us down, instead of crediting Miami with a miraculous catch. Sometimes the bounces just go the other way as well, and luck factors in, like the fluke TD reception Pitt had to beat us last year. We scream that a defender did wrong, when EVERYTHING had to go right just for the catch to be made.

I guess we can just ignore the 7 bubble screens in a row that let them get in position for that play to begin with.

Yes, it was a miraculous catch. I don’t think anyone will debate that with you. It’s the other stuff that was upsetting. One play didn’t decide the game. If we had been more aggressive to start the drive I think we would have won the game.

They stopped them. Those bubble screens didn't move them into scoring position. Once the D stiffened, they held them on third down. Without that miracle catch, we'd be talking about how the D adjusted.

But thank you for proving the point I was trying to make. You fail to credit the opponents good luck, but are quick to point out our flaws.

I'm sorry but the bubble screens played a huge role in them even being able to be set up for a miracle catch that essentially let them get in field goal range. Take the bubble screens away and a miracle catch on 4th down doesn't allow them to be in field goal range. That was just plain and simple being out coached. After the second one you call a time out or change the play to have someone in flats.

I do agree that fans will do exactly what you are saying with not crediting or crediting the team when it's for or against us, but won't do it for the other team. But those bubble screens are what allowed the 4th down catch to even be in field goal range, and like I said it wasn't good luck by Miami it was being out coached.

No. It was a lucky catch. There was no coaching involved in the catch. A catch beat us. Sure, we allowed the to move into position, but ultimately, we played great defense on 4th down and lost to a lucky catch.

You are missing the point. Yes, the catch beat us, but getting out coached (its bubble screen after bubble screen after bubble screen) allowed them to even have that catch put them in field goal range. Are you going to disagree that the bubble screens didn't have anything to do with them getting down field? And it didn't affect their field position for that miracle catch?

It's moot. If that 4th down play had fallen incomplete, we'd be praising the D for bowing up and stopping them, kind of like we are today after the VT game. And guess what, 99% of the time that Miami catch is going to fall incomplete with that D. Ds will give up plays. It happens, but the coach adjusted and stopped them, until a flukey catch. So, you can choose to still hammer the preceding plays, but the reality is that we adjusted, and if not for a miracle catch, we'd be talking about our win against Miami.

BTW I'm not blaming the D for the loss against Miami, I also agree that normally doesn't happen. My original comment was to show that the bubble screens definitely played a role in the loss, something you seem to be ignoring (correct me if I'm wrong with that statement) you said the bubble screens didn't move them into scoring position but the 40 yards or so they got off of them certainly played a huge role in allowing them to be in field goal range with a catch that only happens a few times out of 100. Also he did adjust but a little late imo. And I would still be puzzled at the bubble screens against Miami without that catch. I completely agree with what you are saying about how fans will praise or put down for things that happen or don't happen, but that's not what I'm talking about.
