I've been to the Shorter, Southern, Sam Houston State, Tulane, Alcorn State, Wofford and NC A&T games this year. Last night's performance was the most discouraging to date, eclipsing the Shorter win in OT. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to diagnose the problem - we don't have national caliber talent, particularly shooters. This season is going to be rough.

Despite the above, I remain hopeful that Pastner can get this turned around if he lands some top-flight recruits. And, he should be able to make a convincing case to the right players: ACC, great facilities, Atlanta, potential immediate playing time/impact, etc.

His first 2 signees of his first full recruitment cycle give me hope as well. 2 solid 4 year guys. What is unfortunate is we currently have 2 freshman at the same positions that are also solid 4 year guys.

True, but all of those players have the versatility to play multiple positions.

I'm not sure Moore could play anything but PG. Is Alvarado a possible shooting guard?

Collin Sexton was widely recruited as a PG and a selling point was that he could be on the floor at the same time as Alvarado. Also, Jose is currently the SG for his HS.

He played quite a bit with Heath last night.
We definitely don't want to reproduce that offensive juggernaut. We need a pure shooter at the 2 spot. If Jose is a solid 2 then I feel good about it. I think Justin has a bright future, I just don't see him lights out anytime soon.

Jose will be adequate immediately and likely improve. Shooting is in his arsenal.

Haywood should see time at both wing positions and be our 1st specialist. Tadric will remain streaky, but only one more year.

I think Okogie will keep working on his 3 and has a great chance to develop consistency from range, which will also open up lanes. C-Matt can probably shoot at a pretty good clip right now, but his defense needs to be there.

Justin needs work on his confidence to just take the long range shot, let alone the shot itself.

In a perfect world. Alvarado backs up JMo for a year. I expect that to change in year two. After Jax finishes up we have Okogie and CurtGoneBad (love that handle, early nickname idea CGB) on the wing Okogies junior year. Two 6'5 guys. Gotta like that. I expect JMo to be backing up Alvarado at this point.

MJ Walkers recruitment at this point is interesting to me. If we sign him and he's not a OAD I expect that to conclude with some unexpected contrition.
