Gibbs was simply part of the sacrifice to the sports overlords for the Braves World Series W. All makes much more sense now.I hate losing Gibbs like we all do but we have way bigger issues than losing a running back. The only way back, like every team who comes back from the scrap heap is to start with the offensive line. Build a cohesive Oline and QB’s and RB’s will come. Heck, we got Gibbs to come based on words alone. Once we come off the floor bloodied and show we have a OLine and a plan we’ll get skilled players. There are a ton of skilled position players out there. Every team has them and high schools churn out a new batch every year. We are what happens when the OLine sucks. The defense sucktitude is due to coaching. That can be fixed relatively quickly. We are down right now but we can jump back to average relatively quickly with decent coaching. Our only priority regarding the team (not coaches) is to get the OLine better. They are the engine. Everyone else are accessories.
It's just the way college football is now, sucks but not much you can do about it but play the gameUT Knoxville just had 5 good players enter the portal,,,, even after a pretty good year, ,,, so, no surprise about Gibbs & probably others,,,Sign of the times,,,,
Hopefully, he will want to play with his brother."IF" Pierce transfers to GT. Wonder if this will impact Riley Quick?
Ok dumb question can a Player still pull out of the portal or is it too lateFrom The Athletic’s article on players who have entered the portal already:
Georgia Tech RB Jahmyr Gibbs
With all due respect to Rattler, the most coveted player who entered the portal on Monday was probably Gibbs. He’s one of the most talented playmakers Georgia Tech has had in a long time, and that became evident immediately during a debut season that earned second-team Freshman All-America honors from The Athletic. Gibbs was even better as a sophomore, ranking No. 3 nationally in all-purpose yards with 1,805.
He has produced 1,206 rushing yards and 773 receiving yards over his first 19 college games while also being one of the ACC’s most dangerous kick returners. The top-100 recruit was the Yellow Jackets’ highest-rated offensive signee since Calvin Johnson, and Geoff Collins and his staff had to hold off a strong late push from Florida, LSU and others to get him signed.
This is one of those no-doubt, blue-chip transfers that those big-time programs will fight hard to win. Just ask the last two coaches who had to face him. Now-former Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly told reporters he thought Gibbs should be the ACC Player of the Year, and Georgia’s Kirby Smart offered serious praise as well last week. “When you watch the tape, he looks like he’s in a different gear,” Smart said.
As The Athletic’s Jeff Schultz pointed out on Monday, Gibbs moving on says a lot about his confidence level in the Jackets’ offense and perhaps even the overall direction of the program. After losing six in a row to finish the season, Georgia Tech committed to sticking with Collins, who’s 9-25, and he fired offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude on Sunday. A departure of this magnitude certainly cranks up the pressure.
I predict that the grass isn’t always greener, and quite a few of these guys will regret their decision. But they are young men and can make their own bed.“Mediocre People Don't Like High Achievers, and High Achievers Don't Like Mediocre People.” Nick Saban. The portal and being able to play immediately will accelerate the division between these two groups. High performing teams will lose mediocre players (by their standards) and mediocre teams will lose high achievers. Saban predicts that this will favor the "factories" and harm the mid tier programs.
They can put in at any time. Edit: they can pull out as wellOk dumb question can a Player still pull out of the portal or is it too late
Yes they can and some players do stay at their schools.Ok dumb question can a Player still pull out of the portal or is it too late
Well the NCAA has played right into this. There are only about 10 programs that can compete at the highest level anymore and ESPN has fueled it with pouring money and marketing into the SEC. Oklahoma just lost a good coach because he sees that competition in the SEC is good for tv but not for his wins. He has a better shot at the playoffs outside the SEC. ND just lost a coach to SEC money. It's gotten so skewed now that I am even losing interest in college football. I will probably watch the SEC game just hoping Bama beats the dwags.“Mediocre People Don't Like High Achievers, and High Achievers Don't Like Mediocre People.” Nick Saban. I think Jordan was on track to finish up his undergrad soon so it might not come as a surprise to some.Jordan Yates in the portal
Sims is still here currently and will most likely stay now if others are staying.Losing starting QB and RB right after firing the OC seems bad.
Players don't have to transfer if they go in. Being in the portal just means they are looking at options.Ok dumb question can a Player still pull out of the portal or is it too late
