ESPN QBR vs PFF offense ratings. PFF is based on film study (the “eye” test) while QBR is based on the game numbers (attempts, completions, TDs, interceptions, etc.). Upper right is what you want—you’re getting results and you’re doing the right thing. Upper left and lower right are “maybe it’s good or bad luck, or maybe we should dig into one or the other ratings and see if they’re wrong”, and lower left is “this is not good”.

A lot of ACC QBs are in the lower left, including ours.

Having a solid OL and receivers with great hands will help QBR and will help the offense in front of PFF. It's not all about the QB, but the QB is a big deal in this chart.

You might notice that a passing PFF grade is around 75 and a passing QBR is around 70 or so.

Pre head to head
Duke qb is kicking Sims to the curb.

Next game is w UVA Armstrong. Both are in toilet.

If possible would love to see the future chart.

I think Sims is rising - sure will show on the chart.

Here’s a fun one

You will want to avert your eyes from our red zone numbers and our passing stats.

We got explosive plays and turnovers though

Yeah, those stats align with what we saw. Poor performance on pass blocking. Poor execution in the passing game and in the red zone. Timely big plays and turnovers, as well as special teams play won the game against a superior team. That formula can get you some more wins, but we need to do a better job of pass blocking, executing our passes and scoring touchdowns in the red zone.

It's all very clear...Sims passing needs sharpening (still saying this in year 3) and the OL needs to grow, mature, and exert themselves up and down the field but particularly in the red zone.

Slovis and Van Dyke and Armstrong are having bad years, and DJU at Clemson is having a bang-up year--he went from bad to good in one season.

Sims faced 4 out of 5 tough teams to start the year, but has he regressed?

Not speaking specifically to you @slugboy , but for those of you who throw around the phrase "not a P5 QB" when referring to some of our former QBs, what is the requirement or qualification to be deemed a P5 QB? Does Jeff qualify as a P5 QB? I'd think at least 1/4 of starting P5 QBs are "not a P5 QB" the way some use that terminology, and that just doesn't make sense. Do you really mean "a top tier P5 QB that could play for anybody?"

he has to start putting up numbers now. had the excuses of good teams + game scripts being weird. hopefully we step up on the o line and give him more than half a second saturday

Good on defense, not good on offense (special teams not on the graph):

Let's see what Long and the Weinke and the offensive coaches have done this week (and how much we've healed up)

I assume that's based on full season stats. I wonder how it would like if we ignored G**** C****** data.

Purely conjecture but the offense only looks slightly better. Defense has been balling out. If we want to really compete for the coastal, we'll need the offense to start making more plays
And--somewhat--the punt unit isn't as bad as it was in the first four games.
