Can't find many positives just a bunch of confusion on our part; To rub salt in the wound; They won with the backup QB playing most of the 4th quarter

Recruiting In the top 50 is still a success and foreign to Tech. But let’s use your logic and say that all the teams with less Commits then Bama will still finish higher then them this season.
I looked at this for another post. Since 2010 (9 years), Tech had a 247 recruiting rating above 50 5 times. It isn't hard to check this.

Oth, it also doesn't mean much. Our average stars were higher then many rated "above" Tech; we were sometimes restricted in the number of players we could bring in.

How many games had Thacker coached against the TO? IDK but it looked like zero though

I really like Thacker and what he is doing with the defense. However, at his press conf concerning the upcoming game against the Citadel he was cocky, even arrogant sounding about his roots in conferences with the to3 and how he knew all about that scheme. Well his plan did not look like what has been beating CPJ lately, and there were no adjustments of consequence in the game, He was ill prepared. I hope this was an awakening for him to get back on track. He needs to get some seriousness going and get rid of the foolishness, lack of discipline, and showboating. Time to do and stop the talk.

Set mining with lower pocket pairs is a ... oh, wait, that's a different discussion.

I've only gotten through the first half of USF and am hoping to get through the rest of it and the Citadel game to summarize my thoughts, maybe even do a video if I have time. But what *is* funny is that we were doing a lot of the things people were saying we weren't ("WAI NO SLANT ROUTE?!! WAI NO WR SCREENS?!1!!1). We even ran the triple option several times ...

I apologize again because I'm not sure I can always tell you and @stylee apart. I was just a very rare lurker at bbuzzoff. However, IIrc, you did a primer of some of the base plays of CPJ's offense with pictures and play diagrams/descriptions.

If that was you, and you could do the same with what we're doing now, I'm sure folks would appreciate it. We may even be able to get @Longestday to use it to do some of his offensive play break-downs.

The average rating of the players is the most important factor in success. I’m not sure how these damn rankings actually work but they’re slanted towards number of recruits instead of quality of recruits. We were lowly ranked (50 or so) before and we’re nearly as lowly ranked now. I hope we move the needle next year or close well this year. We’re going to need it.

GT did not lose to the Citadel based on talent or OL. The new 404 culture resulted in 75 yards of penalties, rotating QBs before the game was put away, and bad in game management.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Sewak fan and I believe he is CPJs biggest mistake in his coaching career. The OL is depleted and will make 2019 more difficult.

Which changes nothing about what happened here. We could not field a consistent defense for 10 years. I don't care if Army's defense is the second coming of the steel curtain. We couldn't do that here for whatever reason you want to give it.

If we had Army's schedule, our D would look a lot better under PJ.

Morgan St, UMass, VMI (not VPI - VMI) etc. Anyone wanting to compare Army's D to ours that ignores their weak schedule either has an agenda or is blissfully naive of college football.

I pull for Army more than the other service academies, but c'mon.

I’m considering breaking down the offense. Just haven’t had the time recently

The OL had a hand on offense. I saw many missed zone block plays. I saw missed slide protections. And frankly, I saw effort that is below what I think should be the standard.
Pass pro mistakes can be on the QB as well of course.

The OL is not to solely blame however.

What I do think is clear is that a lot of fans haven’t gone back to watch the game, understandable.

It would have worked fine without the dumba$$ penalties and if the Offense had a pulse.

Considering that we lost in overtime, if we had any of
+ Better clock management
+ Fewer missed blocks on offense and special teams
+ Fewer penalties
+ Better play calling
+ More assertive play from our receivers
+ Better rotation on defense
+ More effort/bigger push on the defensive front 7
+ Better kicking
+ half a dozen other areas

We’d have won in regulation. Add two or three and it’s a comfortable win.

If you point to any one of them as the cause of the loss, you’re right. It’s all of them.

This is the one thing I don't understand. If this is our culture, where were these penalties in the first two games?

Here is coach's thoughts on it. It does not sound like personal fouls is the culture he is trying to cultivate. He took ownership and has said it will be corrected. I think there are valid criticisms to be thrown around, but this is just one game and shouldn't be an indictment on him or the program.

But this doesn't fit with the narrative of most people here. It seems people on here now care more about perception and what the media thinks of our program instead of facts.

Yeah I’m switching things up this week and doing to offensive breakdown. Gotta catch the baby while she’s asleep

I finally did it. Missed assignments pile up real quickly. The good news is that it seems to be fixable.

You’ll find a number of plays where it looks like we run into poor numbers. I’ve determined the QB failed to motion the Z. If the motion guy was there to block the free man, those plays are touchdowns for Mason. Sad.

We slide to wrong backer a good amount of times, that’s a center/QB thing but ultimately on the Q. I have a feeling our QBs are having a very hard time in every facet, particularly with diagnosing MLBs and protections, except for TO running the ball. Sometimes protections are set sound...later in the game we get the same look wrong protection and vice versa.

We run power, looks good, real good the one time everyone hit their assignment. One time we get a missed assignment that busts the play, no worries, back should hit hole anyways, but no he bounced it. That’s fixable. Very frustrating though. You’ll know exactly which one.

All in all, it’s not as good or as bad as it seems. I’m going to wait till next game to put ‘em out there. I think it’s only fair to the players.

A lot of this stuff can be fixed with game reps and commitment to the plan.
