I wonder if anyone reads all of the announcements. A half a billion dollars is not being spent solely on Bobby Dodd. I'm not going to go into the details where else the funds are being spent, for those who don't know. Take the time and go look it up. That way you will not come across as being ignorant. (This is not specifically at you apatriot1776)
Factual.

It doesn't really change the point. Why are we spending a significant amount renovating a stadium that we can't afford to play big games in anyways?

So we can?

The stadium needs updating and honestly as much as it pains me to say this game is likely going to become harder and harder to keep as a home and home as re-alignment starts to take shape. The skipping of it in the covid year was the start of this. My unfortunate prediction si that by 2030 we likely won't have this game after thanksgiving. It will either become an opening classic in the benz every year. Or it won't be a game due to a SEC big 10 Scheduling agreement.
Unless we end up in the big 10 and it can become a part of that game though i estimate the SEC-BIG10 football challenge would still likely be in September.

You can bet this game is also on the potential chopping block should the SEC have to go to 9 games. You will see us alternating for that game slot with Clemson.

Of course we are not spending all the half billion on the stadium. However, we would not be investing a half billion if we did not expect to significantly increase our revenue from our biggest sources of revenue, football and basketball.

UGA, with a loss, plays undefeated UTA tomorrow. If UGA takes another loss, then they would go into the CCG with two losses if they qualify. In that scenario, the SEC is staring at their runner-up with 3 losses or their top-ranked undefeated team taking a loss and dropping out of the top slot. That’s with 8 conference games. I think hades might freeze over before they willingly go to 9 conference games.

didnt the SEC already propose going to 9 conference games, but ESPN said they wouldn't give them extra money for it?

I think they were exploring it, but I don’t know that it was a formal proposal. Then again, the SECheat would likely do anything for money.

We apparently will, too, because we have lashed our wagon to theirs. Why, I am not sure, but we have.

Yes, a good amount of that is going to Zelnak and to O’Keefe. On the flip side, I’m also pretty sure the $90m initiative for the Edge isn’t included in that $500m figure.

Taken a break from the Swarm the last couple of weeks. King’s injury and the last couple of games have taken a lot of the juice out of GT football for me this year. But I figured since we’ve got a bye week I’d take this opportunity to get y’all riled up.

I guess since I went to the ND game at MBS I got put on an email list for MBS events. Got this one today advertising for UGA fans to come to next year’s COFH game at the Benz. The Florida game also gets mentioned, but since that one is always a neutral site game it doesn’t seem strange. MBS advertising specifically to Georgia fans for what is a GT home game feels kinda Busch League to me. I’m sure the discourse in response will be entertaining.

This is proof that MBS is no friend of Georgia Tech.
MBS is going to be friends with whomever provides events that pay them money. That is true of the Falcons, Atlanta United, Concerts, SEC Championship Game, National Championship Game, Super Bowl, Final Four, Georgia, Georgia Tech, etc. MBS job is to get events which fill their venue.

Advertising our home game to our arch rival is different and NOT a way to treat a "friend" in their home city who contractually gave them this game, not UGA. Just my opinion.
You are right to call them money grubbers though, that is all they are to us and all they will ever be.

The GTAA sells tickets to UGA and does not bat an eye. Money is King in college athletics now!

You can purchase tickets to most events they show in that email, even SEC and National champions for this season. The GT mutt games has no tickets available. We get first shot after the suites & clubs which are the least in numbers. It's time for GT fans to put up or shut up. The name of the game for bowls is that we don't travel well. This isn't a bowl game, its just a mile from home. No justifiable reason GT fans shouldn't be in attendance. No mutts can get in if WE buy the tickets first.

I have been buying season tickets for decades and our UGA home games have been included, always. Then next year they take this game away and expect me, and other STH, to buy it back because they sold our tickets to MBS for $10 million?
Sorry, I don't enjoy watching my college team play in MBS enough, especially against the leg humpers, to swallow that pill.
