Nc state playing FSU pretty well won't hurt either
Back on topic our SOS sucks
depends on what service or algorithm you use. Sagarin has our SoS at #117.Depends on your definition of "suck". Our SOS is about 49th hardest out of 128
teams. http://www.jhowell.net/cf/cf2014.htm
Overall the ACC is the third strongest conference after SEC and PAC12. But the ACC has the 4 easiest conference SOS (see bottom of link above).
The SOS is strong enough that going undefeated will probably get the ACC team into the top 4. That's all that really matters to me from SOS.... getting to the play offs. Wish there we 8 or 16 in the playoffs though.

Gentlemen, do you know if your SOS rankings are for the season as a whole or just so far? I can see that difference explaining the disparate rankings.
Yeah, for sure, only unbeaten ACC teams are FSU and GT, and they should be in top 4 if unbeaten through ACCCG. I suppose the main competition would be a 2nd SEC team. That is part of it. JHowell has our SOS to date (called YTD) at .351 which is 86th on their ranking. Here's the site, SOS is full year SOS and YTD is SOS Year to Date. http://www.jhowell.net/cf/cf2014.htm (I had to copy to Excel and sort to figure out where we ranked on SOS.)
My point is that by the end of the season, we (or any undefeated ACC team) will have a high enough SOS to make the top 4 most likely. The SOS will get bumped up a bit for the ACCCG teams who play.

This x 100. All we have to do is win, SoS won't matter if we're undefeated. Besides, we would have wins over FSU and Clemson. As far as the playoff goes, if we dare to hypothesize, the only way it'll matter is if we have a loss, or if there are more than 4 undefeateds at the end of the year. No way a 1 loss anybody passes an undefeated ACC Champ with wins over FSU and Clemson. I'll take an easier row to hoe than a brutal schedule that gains us a strong SoS.It is what it is. That can translate into more wins. I'll take that.
And most importantly a win over uga! Likely SEC division winner too. This x 100. All we have to do is win, SoS won't matter if we're undefeated. Besides, we would have wins over FSU and Clemson.
