So who leaves? Attrition.

Using resources to prepare is not even close to the same thing as cheating. If a prof is lazy/dumb enough to repeat a test year after year they have zero right to complain when people take advantage of the “study guide”.

That’s one way to interpret his statement.

Whew, boy. This thread....

I think a deep breath may be in order. Transfers happen and not everyone is always happy about how it happens. Not a new thing at all, but we're going pretty deep down the rabbit hole with these arguments.

Let’s use Kirvonte as a hypothetical.

“Hey Kirvonte. We really appreciate all you have done here. But you aren’t 100% healthy yet and might not be by midseason. And we have this stud coming in and out numbers are off so we need to place you on medical and use your scholarship for him.”

“But coach, I’m feeling good and working my way up to playing speed. I’m gonna win more All-ACC recognitions this year. You can take that to the bank”

“Sorry kid. I don’t gamble with injuries and I can get four years with our new recruit. Good luck sport. I have a contact at Kennesaw who really thinks you can help them this year. Let me know if you want his digits. I’ve already told him what a great kid you are.”

Honest conversations are healthy. If the guy isn’t going to play let him know and let him know his options. Help him out however you can. Crazy you guys think this is unhealthy. It’s not like they get called into HR, have 5 minutes to pack up their locker, then security escorts them out.

The only people who get upset at transfers are the ones who think Parker Brauns shouldn’t be allowed the grad transfer route.

I love these threads because there is nothing funnier than an actual former multi year starter for our team telling the same subset of fans how things really are and them refusing to accept it.

The delusion is amazing.

Why did prior staffs never over sign? It’s a false premise regardless.

Are you certain they didn't? I don't recall most fans paying much attention to this stuff prior to a decade ago. CPJ's recruiting preferences were never school policy. It's just the way he personally chose to do things.

I remember during 2015 that we were pushing the limit (and somewhat beyond from time to time what was public).

I think CPJ wanted a strong walk on program, so it didnt really hurt to have a few extra scholarships available to reward those guys for a year or 2. It appears that CGC is going to hit the transfers a little harder than CPJ did so it's just going to be slightly different allocation more than likely.

Honestly, Kirvonte isn't a good example because it would be pretty dumb IMO for a coach to have that conversation with anyone as talented as he is.

Exactly. Kirvonte is not the RB you have this conversation with. I can think of a couple other RBs that I’m sure this conversation does apply to though. That’s looking out for everyone’s best interests.

Either stay at Tech and graduate as a student, or fulfill your dreams on the field elsewhere.

Hopefully talent won’t be the primary determining factor in a scenario such as this with our staff. Plenty of fans are willing to sacrifice ethics and integrity to win. I have hope our staff does not feel likewise.

Absolutely! Biggest lesson i learned at Tech
and Life is the most lauded and praised people are not always the smartest and accomplished. It’s not what you know but who you know and many people “Get Out” because they know how to play the game better than others.
Yep. It's called the "Halo Effect". It's part of that unfortunate tendency among humans to think that because someone succeeds it must be because there is something special about them. Instead of what it usually connotes: sheer old-fashioned bum luck.

On this test business: I taught for years (and years and years …) and I knew all about that. I short-circuited it by giving out review sheets that had the terms they needed to know about and questions I was likely to ask. That way the students knew what I wanted and I could grade them more carefully. Seemed to work. The students who took my classes more then once had a love-hate relationship with the review sheets: they liked being able to know what to study and they hated that I demanded answers that, you know, made sense and provided evidence for their arguments.
