Like I keep saying, he reminds me so much of Peter Warrick that it's uncanny! We'll definitely miss him, both on New Year's and next year.

Great video. So many emotions ran through my mind when I watched it. The highlight clutch reception against Pitt last year to keep the drive alive and seal the game. The game tying catch against VT this year and the reaction of the Hokie mascot. I LOL'd at the changing of direction against UVa to make a big gain. The reverse against UNC that probably inadvertently cost us the game.

Helter Smelter will be missed. Here's to a speedy recovery and best of luck in the NFL. And the next GT prodigy for WR in a high school run oriented offense is.....

I played a lot of football in my youth and have been around it my adult life. From the first game I saw him play last year, I knew he had a gift from God. He is a beast and a heck of an athlete. He will be a very good NFL receiver. I got the chance to meet him at the ACC championship and he is as good a young man as he is an athlete. Best of luck Deandre. You will always have a fan in me. One of my favorites to play at GT recently.

He reminds you of Peter Warrick? Both were outstanding, but I don't see any comparison at all - except that maybe they both have great hands. Warrick was the prototypical smaller, quicker and shiftier wide receiver/return specialist. Smelter is a bigger, physical guy with great straight line speed but isn't someone that's going to dipsy-doodle through a defense or special teams unit the way Warrick could.

If I were going to compare Smelter to anyone, it would be our own Demaryius Thomas.

I say Anquan Boldin. D.Thomas is faster and a little shiftier than Smelter. But its been a while since ive seen someone high point a football like Smelter does. He got excellent athletic abilities that allow him to make tough catches look simple. Just imagine if he would have played football for all 4 years. He would have definitely gone in the 1st round. He just doesnt have enough exposure yet.. hopefully he can participate in the combine or a pro day of some sort. He deserves the opportunity to show off his skills. Good luck Deandre. Make us proud in the NFL. Please Falcons trade Julio and pick up this guy. Lol

Not only does he have good hands catching the ball, he runs like a RB when he gets it. That's what I always enjoyed about watching him...he was always good for some YAC.
I am really going to miss seeing him in Old Gold and White, I really hope he recovers fast enough to get a good shot at the next level.

One of my favorite Smelter highlights was one of the few highlights from the Music City Bowl last season on the block where he knocked the all-american DB for Ole Piss out of the game. He hit that guy so hard it gave me a headache!
Yeah that hit was one of the hardest, cleanest blocks I've ever seen. I haven't had a chance to watch this highlight vid yet...did it make the cut? I haven't been able to find that clip anywhere since I first watched the game (and I wasn't going to keep that game on the DVR...too painful to watch).

I loved how he would make the catch then cut across the field, he did that several times. I also loved how he loved to block. As unselfish a player as you'll find and that's rare when it's one of your best players. A 1-8 guy who's also a glue guy. Rare indeed.

Smelter has everything NFL guys are looking for except field stretching speed. He gets out of his breaks really well, has great hands, uses his body extremely well, can go up to get the football, and is very physical. There was not a single CB on the schedule this year that even came close to slowing him down one on one. He will create problems for defenses at the next level too. Just heal up young man and do your rehab......
