The public spectacle nature of all this is rather weird/sad.

Obviously the coaches need to be aware of everything but your coworkers don’t usually need to or get to know when you interview somewhere else. And certainly random yahoos online don’t.

Singleton will be fine, I’m sure, but there are a lot of people who get bad advice and/or make bad decisions about leaving their current school all in the public eye.

Singleton is a great player. I would like him to return, but I accept that he will likely not. A lot of rationalizing to make us feel better here…
Same thoughts here, I get that a lot of us take it personally when a player decides to transfer for XYZ reason, but it’s so disheartening to see people on here immediately turn against somebody they were just head over heels for. Seeing how people reacted when it took Petty some extra time to sign was kind of disappointing. Gotta understand it’s just how the new landscape looks and that we can cheer for guys in the jersey while also understanding it’s a business now more so than ever.

True…but what is the internet for if not for unfounded speculation?

I’m just baffled by the move personally. I know a lot can happen in a year, but if he thinks he’s good enough to go pro he’s pretty much shopping for a 1 year pay day. Idk if it was me I’d personally want to see it through at the school that took a chance on me as a 2 star. Especially if it was for one more season and the talent that team had coming in and coming back..
Who knows what brought him to this decision. I don't think any of us are aware of the financials of his family and himself so we need to keep that in mind. That being said, I can see coach Key being understanding if that was the case and telling him to go out and see what the market will pay him and then telling him he still has a home here should he want to return. But that would come with some conditions he would have to agree to including the rest of the team accepting him back in order to maintain the chemistry of the team. I guess a lot of that would depend on how Singleton handled his portal entry regarding any discussions he may have had with the coaching staff.

We can't know because so much will be new.

Will we know if team is better? Other areas will have to get way better.

If we win 8 9 10 games it will be very slightly due to one wr and way more about much better the TE room is.

Last year for te passing receptions we were plugging in wr and freshman.

With more 6-5" TE ( just got sr te from Cal and r sr Sithers ) who can catch we can get chunk yards UTM if lb don't back off.

I think it's all up to Key to be aggressive and trust King to make the throws to TE.

Imo, that will open up wr down field and rb swing passss ( count on superman and the young rb to get good passing yards.

Key is building UATW
Good thoughts. Hard to tell how much was King being told to take fewer risks or King having arm/shoulder issues for much more of the season than we realized. Hopefully whatever the shoulder injury fully heals and allows him to fire the ball wherever he wants.

I've thought from the beginning this was him gauging his market value. I also always thought he would give GT a chance to match an offer before officially leaving. I could be wrong, but this is looking more likely than not that he ends up back in a GT uniform for ~$1M.

Singleton is good. I hope he comes back. He will help our offense. But at this point if it's between paying him or picking up several contributors on defense, I would rather use that NIL $ on defense. In a perfect world we would have enough money for both. I just don't see that being the case.

Something weird is definitely going on. You're one of the top transfers available (according to services ...that's a whole other discussion), you were also one of the first "big name" players in the portal, but you're still out there trying to find a home. Most of the guys rated as highly as Singleton usually have their destination figured out before they "officially" hit the portal...sorry, but that's the truth. There's a LOT of tampering going on, and most players have their parents or agents bombarded towards the end of the season with NIL offers to hit the portal. Most of the elite players already know their destination and negotiations have already been finalized before they hit the portal.

Either Singleton was promised something that didn't materialize when it was time to put pen to paper, or teams are slow playing him. First rumors said Singleton was valued around 2 mill, then rumors reflected 1 mill a week later. That's quite the dropoff.

I have no ill will towards Singleton. I hope he makes life changing money and gets more money than he knows what to do with. I certainly wouldn't want my son to have to deal with this kind of free for all environment.
