Would you care to translate that last sentence for an OLD liberal arts graduate who raises his arms triumphantly at being able to turn the computer on?
CS 1371 is Computing for Engineers that every Freshman engineering major is required to take. The course teaches programming basics via the language MATLAB, which indexes arrays starting from 1 rather than 0 like almost every other programming language.

OTOH......
One of my sons played college baseball in Louisiana...his mom and I flew out to Lubbock for weekend series..... after Sun afternoon game, we met him as team got on the bus for 10 hour ride back to New Orleans..... he says, "Dad, I'm transferring to Texas Tech....have you ever seen this many beautiful girls in one place?"
Pretty girls everywhere, I know, but have to admit that it was certainly a target-rich environment.
(No, he did not transfer. Worse, he went 2 for 12.....oh well, long trip)
Good thing he didn't go to Ole Miss first. I guess. Update: As I see was pointed out before above. The Babe Quotient (Babes/Total Female Population) is very high in that place.

I did not take this class. This class did not exist when I was in school. MATLAB did not exist when I was in school.

So now Malik has gotten his bag. We need him to work his *** off to get better for the next 8 months and lead our offense to an ACC Championship. Just ask any NFL WR in the final year of their contract: it's really easy to get complacent after earning generational wealth and follow it up with a let down year. Malik needs to crave an ACC title like a 1371 student craves a 0-based indexed programming language.
Out of all people on the team, Malik already works the hardest...

The computer had not yet been invented when you were young apparently
Main frames with remote terminal connections or punched card decks in late 60's. . There were hobbyist micro computers that were programed in machine language in the 70's. GT EE department. had some DEC computers that could be programmed in the early 70's. Radio Shack TRS 80 was the first really popular home computer. IBM PC followed around 1983. Basic was the preload language and DOS was the operating system.

Sarcasm/humor does not compute with you huh?

Zero-based indexing makes no sense anyways. Do matrices and vectors have a zeroth row in linear algebra? No. Is there a zeroth step in an iteration? No. This is why MATLAB is the superior programming language.

Now that I think of it, I feel that it’s quite likely that this influenced Malik’s decision to return. He may have seen other school’s intro to programming classes and, seeing that they were using Python, or even C++, realized his fatal error. Maybe.

But 0-based indices make the pointer math work cleanly

Last year (2023), I forget the exact game, Malik made a great reception that was pivotal to GT winning the game. Post game, there was a photo of Key and Malik hugging and Key taking a long time saying something to Malik. It was away from field and it was away from anyone...had a photo not been taken, no one would have known it even happened. Before that game, Malik's body language was pretty poor on the field all season, probably due to the fact that a freshmen WR (Eric Singleton) was getting a lot of the catches and he was being overlooked. In the post game presser, Key remarked about how Malik just needed to trust the coaches and process, but he was on his way. Fast forward to 2024, and Malik became the WR he envisioned putting up really good numbers and becoming a big part of our offense.

It always seemed like Malik and Key had a special bond (It seems Key has a special bond with a lot of players). Malik made a business decision to move on, probably spurred by GT bringing in two very good WRs, but sometimes it's difficult to let go of special relationships and a place where you've had success. I'm glad Rutherford is staying. He's got a chance to be a great player for GT and cement his legacy at a school that appreciates him...as opposed to getting lost in the numbers like Nate McCollum and Ahmarean Brown.
