With the season just 3 weeks away, many of us will be in Callaway Plaza for pre-game festivities. We will be among Dodd, Alexander and Heisman. But what about Ross? Just wondering if there has ever been an attempt to have a statue of him erected? This would have all 4 coaches who have led us to National Titles together in a fan-centric area. How would we (the GT fan base) go about getting something like this off the ground? ---This would possibly lead to a redesign of the Plaza, moving all statues and erecting info about the titles but he and the team would be recognized.

Maybe a short statue of him instead? ;)

All joking aside, it is an interesting question. Dodd, Alexandre, and Heisman were national-level names way more than Ross was. But history can be influenced and a statue would go a long way to making Ross a more 'legendary' coach perhaps.

Yea imo he wasn't here long enough to justify a statue. Dodd, Alexander, and Heisman all were here a long time (at least 15 years) and made serious impacts, both on our football program and college football as a whole. Ross won a championship but that's about it for his time at Tech.

I'm gonna say yes, though I did have to think about it. But 1990 is just so huge in our history, he deserves it
Now that I think about it, what would be cooler would be a scene recreating him celebrating with players after one of the victories from that season... such as over UVA. That way we'd be honoring that season and the players as much as Ross.

I'd vote for it. The main reason cited above against is the length of tenure. But … by 1987 the era of 20 year coaching tenures was pretty much over. There were exceptions - Bowden, for instance - but turnover had become the rule of the day. Given that, I see the 1990 championship as the overriding factor in the decision.

So put the thing up.

Sure let’s put it next to the CPJ sculpture that will be build out of Navy Blue stone.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, ok ok just kidding guys. No need to be all worked up..

I voted yes, but with a caveat. I think they should redo the upper deck facing ATL skyline into the beer garden that has been mentioned over and over and put a statue garden there for the National and ACC champs

It’s a no brained. Boss Ross was one of the best coaches ever at GT and was a presence on campus. The fact he didn’t stay but went to the next level is no problem for me. It’s not like he left to go to Bama. He has brought the greatest memories for any GT fan younger than 60.
