There’s a lot more that we don’t know than we do know.

We don’t know if Key had anything to do with his resignation.

We don’t know if the reason was personal, performance-related (unlikely), or some sort of rule or ethical violation.

My opinion is that the recent issues with special teams are most likely a coincidence. I could be wrong, but the dumpster fire in that area has only been an issue for the last several games. It was improved last season.
Most likely, any coach who underperforms can expect to be let go but continue to be paid per contract terms. We have a very notable recent example of that, and it would be subject to an open records request.

Sorry this has happened for whatever reason. I would thank him for his effort and time working with the young men on our football team. These coaches devote a tremendous amount of time with these kids and provide guidance and lessons in life beyond X's and O's. Hope he can put this set back behind him and move on successfully in his future.

This is the second coach to leave the program mid-season under CBK, Mike Daniels being the first.

That’s purely a factual statement, I have no reason to believe this is anything other than a coincidence.

Beware of coach! If you piss him off he will have a sting operation run on you, forcing you to resign. 🤣

Unlikely, from all appearances, this looks like something neither side wishes to discuss, much less litigate - discovery being what it is....
ESPN writes today: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...rgia-tech-names-tim-salem-coach-special-teams. Somebody in the administration needs to go public with the reason for the departure, or it will be believed that what ESPN stated is a fact. Silence leads to unnecessary speculation. Tim Salem is in his first season as a senior football advisor to the head coach (defense/special teams) at Georgia Tech and coached alongside Coach Key at UCF.

The GT special teams coach has been a revolving door for the past two years. I know that because my grandson, a ranked high school kicker from Orlando FL in the class of 2024, contacted the last two Tech special teams coach and never heard a word from them, not even a return email his junior or senior year. Accepted at Tech academically, he wanted to go to Tech and play football, and would have gone there even as a walk-on. Thankfully, he is happily playing NCAA football and baseball in North Carolina. I feel sorry for the current student-athletes who have to go through now another coaching change.

By the way, in the academic world at Georgia Tech, an associate professor is above an assistant professor and one below a full professor. Coach was an associate coach. I noted Associate Coach Brumfield's picture has been removed from the roster of coaches on the football site, but his son Kyan Brumfield, Quality Control - Running Backs, is still on the roster, but without a picture nor bio. And there is no coaches with "associate" in their job title.

@Tommy_Taylor_1972 @augustabuzz @UgaBlows the ESPN article has one fact related to the firing—that the AA released a two sentence statement.

They appended comments from a previous press conference about special teams performance

There is no indication the two are related, other than ESPN putting them side by side

There is also no information that Key fired anyone—just that Brumfield isn’t with the program any longer. It could be a resignation, or it could be from the AA.

If I were an AA lawyer, I might send ESPN a friendly note that they’ve conflated two things that we did not, and that our only comment about the matter was in the statement. If there is liability, it looks to be ESPN’s liability.

Here’s the entire statement

Something needs to published, even if the departure is for personal reasons or whatever. The impression is that it is for performance issues. Something similar happened last Christmas break when an assistant basketball coach was "departed" without reasons given by the head coach. I assume the players were told something and eventually it will be leaked out if not made public by the GTAA.

Whatever comes out should probably come from Coach Brumfield. There is no way in **** that the school can disclose reasons for dismissal. That's grounds for a lawsuit from my background dealig with terminating people in the workforce.. Tech is better served by letting those so inclined to speculate do that rather than make a comment from a liability standpoint. This will be forgotten by the public by Thursday morning imo.

From the look of the statement, lawyers have informed the AA exactly what should go into a statement, and it’s as little as possible
