Being “all over him” wouldn’t really be grounds for a suspension. Must be something a little more severe than simply on field results. If it was just on field results you could just part ways but we had just extended him.
Agree. But if he Key was still pushing him and he bucked up against Key in front of the team, it is a different story. I am deeply sorry this kind of stuff is happening, regardless of what is really behind this, if it is true.

I got suspend from school once. My punishment was to decorate the Christmas tree. Kind of tells you how serious it was.

Not sure what’s going on, but suspending a coach seems strange. It’s a professional environment. If the guy isn’t up to snuff then just let him go, IMO. Putting an adult in timeout is strange unless there was some off field issue that strangely happened to coincide with the fact that our special teams has been abysmal for a month.

I am still not sure what to think about what is going on. We know that he won't be going to VT. "Suspension" sounds like some kind of investigation or disciplinary thing. I believe I read that he was at practice this week, and maybe even yesterday. That wouldn't coincide with making a decision based on special teams performance. I am not making any definitive statements about what is or is not happening, but I could see it being a suspension for a disciplinary/compliance issue or maybe he has a personal issue and can't make the trip. We will find out sometime, and I will try to not throw too much weight to "reporting" until it is confirmed.

We’ve seen Key demote an assistant during the season for performance, “suspension” feels like off the field matter.

A good time to ask this question…what’s everyone’s opinion on the head coach yelling/screaming at another coach in front of everyone? Kirby is bad about it, so was Saban, maybe that’s where Key and Kirby get it from. I’ve seen Key do this with Coleman, Thacker, and Brumfield, all of which are gone now.

I’ll be honest, I don’t care for it. I’m all for yelling at the players anytime, and coaches behind the scenes, but publicly at other coaches just seems like not a good look to me. In front of the players, other coaches, fans, recruits, parents…ooof makes me cringe everytime. Just feels like a challenging of one’s manhood or something. I’ve never liked it. I worry about players these days willingness to take coaching from a man who they just witnessed get verbally b!tchslapped around the sideline by another man. It’d be hard to take too without bowing up or talking back (I’ve seen some coaches do that). I get the head man is the superior, like he is to the players, but it’s just different. And if I was a recruit, and the guy getting screamed at was my primary recruiter…I dunno, just a tough look, especially if you don’t have Saban/Kirby results. Like that’s the whole reason the Kirby/Miss State QB thing happened. All the dwag fans were running to his defense saying he was going after the DC like that, like that makes it any better.

I’m sure many will say this is soft. Yes, it’s soft, but still cringe.

I totally agree with you. I’m a believer of praise in public, criticize in private.

One of the few exceptions would be if one of my managers broke one of my rules - specifically gripe goes up not down. If they openly criticized senior management in front of their subordinates, that would get them some quick, open criticism.

Waiting for the story behind the story on this one. Definitely more information to be had.
This may not be football related as far as we know. Maybe it's a non-story. but if it is football related I hate that something happened to cause this. It taints the football program. I'm hoping it's a false story and we move on.

The AJC article just says Brumfield isn’t traveling with the team. It doesn’t mention a suspension.

If it is a suspension, like in the tweet, that’s usually an off the field issue. Last year, when we made changes in defensive coaching, those were reassignments, not suspensions.
