Mid 40 this year and low 30 next year would be great. In 20's in 3 or 4 years would be unbelievable
I just want to be competitive w Clemson and Uga

I am not familiar with how many recruits are counted in team ranking . Could u give a short explanation. Thanks.

Short answer, only top 20 recruits count per class. Each star ranking basically has 3 different amount of points you can get, for instance 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 are all 3 stars and points for those are 60, 75, and 90. Top 250 players have extra points, depending on their rankings. Add those together and you have your ranking.

Technically they do have the 20 to 25 a year rule... but they allow you to count early enrolee's against last year's numbers, if there is space. They allow other tricks to let people oversign. They also don't really have much in the way of penalizing coaches for processing kids and not renewing their scholarships.

Make the scholarships binding for 4 years, then you'd see a big change... but that'll never happen.

Why do we call it processing in college and cutting in high school? Maybe it should be like high school and they should all have to tryout every year.

Interesting to look at the specific recruits. Seems like a lot of the far away guys didn't stick with the program for very long.

Johnson's strategy seemed to be hit GA hard and the adjacent states, then pull a few from private schools or whatever contacts one happens to have. I imagine the more recruiting staff you have the easier it is to enlarge your footprint.

Collins hired a lot of guys with Georgia ties. I imagine you will see him pull a little more nationally but the footprint will stay largely the same. Might hit Florida and Texas a little harder. Just depends how much Tech is willing to invest.

I always thought from day one, CPJs strategy of focusing on Ga was a bit misguided.....and it sort of showed. I like the concept of Tech being unique.....and I think it is far more respected outside the SE than in it. Would love to see a strategy of hiting the Catholic and private schools both in the Northeast and Midwest. Cinncinati has a strong network of Catholic H.S. that have always been huge in football.....also that stretch from Pittsburgh to Cleveland. The appeal of warmer weather this time of year should be enough. (-6 in Detroit right now)

I agree, Animal. In general, there are places in the U.S. (and the rest of the world) where students are much more likely to be prepared (and appreciate) a top notch STEM degree, and the SE (again, in general) is not that place. FYI - I am from the NW GA and my kids (both 35 ACTers with one a 2400 SATer) went to school in Bammer, so I am speaking out of some knowledge. I am sure there are pockets of schools in GA, AL, etc., where the science and math education is pushed hard and made to seem important even on great athletes, but I believe this would be the EXCEPTION to the rule.

There have to be more "Derrick Morgans" out there somewhere - we have to find them.

I grew up in Western PA. High School sports is all they have....(they even have a website solely for discussing h.s. sports in the county). We played one game in a 5k seat stadium and there were about 9k people there....used to get escorted out of town by the state police after 'away' win.
I also remember the audible "wows" in class when I announced I was going to Tech......people knew it was a big deal......if only I had weighed another 30 lbs, I might have been a player. ;)
These types of kids are out there...and many will likely not have a problem going that far out of state. Kids in private schools, where tuition runs from 15-35k a year, have likely traveled a bit as well....so being in a new city/ state is not going to be overwhelming.

Oh good grief. One of the biggest bones of contentions from you guys has been others who haven’t been overwhelmed by the “excitement” hype juice and feel it wont be any more successful long term.

There is a different vibe now stylistically. One that probably appeals more to the majority of recruits. But Tech does have to sell more than excitement. I think CGC knows this.

A smaller subset of kids will probably look askance at the excitement stuff from us and other programs. Recruiters need to be able to feel this out and tailor their messages to each kid individually. Which is where big recruiting staffs can pay off.

A larger recruiting staff wasn't needed for this kid. In his own words (not mine), just a different more-upbeat attitude appears to have made the difference. Not sure why quoting this kid's own words generates anger for some but whatever - I'm just glad he came around and wish him well during his time on the Flats!

And? There are other anecdotal examples of the opposite. Guys we have signed who preferred a straight shooting and probably more subdued approach.

Different strokes for different folks is my point. In general hyped excitement probably appeals to the recruiting masses so we benefit from CGC’s personality with most (most likely). But a bigger staff can help identify when other approaches might work better with other types. It’s really pretty simple.
