It has been done before.

Another possibility albeit a lot less likely is the change from a 4 man front to a 3 man front. We don't appear to have the bigger bodies to do this. However, other teams have done this before with a lot less beef. Anything is possible.

I feel certain the more likely option is that they will land another DT or 2.
That's pretty much Woody's approach, if you recall: a three man front with smaller, quicker DLs backed by large, aggressive LBs. This has worked with spectacular results at Army. Could have at Tech too.

Ah, well. Thanks TFG, so much.

Signing FCS players and low-level small school FBS talent is NOT going to make us better as a football team. We have NO defensive linemen at all... The answer is not FCS players and stragglers nobody else is trying to sign. We have to get better in a hurry on defense and secure some solid DLs, LBs, and Dbs. Every time we made a tackle in the secondary the DB got hurt. It was embarrassing. All of them were made out of glass.

So Coach Pope posted a tease on X with four bees - Did we pick up another DE Commit from the portal?

Finkley and Grace are both DEs who have been linked to Tech recently. I’d guess one of those two. Finkley is a guy Texas fans have gushed over since announcing for the portal as a big locker room guy who just got recruited over with REALLY good talent.

Yup Army sure shut down ND.
Well … not them, but then neither has anyone else. Oth, the other 12 (that's twelve, as in two greater than 10) wins Woody's D did just fine, thanks. Of course, Captain America helped, but Monken always got his 3 stops a game, just like Paul always wanted.

Woody is good at Army. They get players who are also real students and know they will be Army officers for 5 years Active Duty. Saying you won’t get to the NFL practicing against that offense does not factor into their decision to go to West Point.

Glad it has worked to both Monken and Woody! Good coaches.

Congratulations, you just set a record. You only have a total of 11 posts, but I’ve already put you on “ignore”. Of course, that’s a low bar to jump over since I’ve only ignored 1 other poster prior to this. There have been others I have thought about, but then they will occasionally post something thoughtful and insightful. Since I see little chance of that happening here …. “Ignore “

Haven’t ignored him yet (I think I’ve only done that once) but I did think about calling up the psychological profiling department of the FBI.

Thinking that someone getting injured in football is a sign of softness or weakness is vintage psychopath territory.

I think thatTech is obviously looking at tweens. Almost all the DLs from the portal are tweens. We recruited two tweens as well.

What's a tween? That's Marco Coleman: 6'2", 230 in high school with just about the most impressive pass rush stats in the US. Why didn't he go to OSU? Because he's too small to play in the DL and too big to be a reliable LB. So Ross takes him and the rest is history.

Do we have a Marco in the works? I don't know, but the coaches seem to think there's a chance. I'd bet on the guy from Mercer myself.

Yeah, well....Marco Coleman didn't play nose tackle. He had some mighty talented and large guys on the inside (Kevin Battle comes to mind). Right now our pantry is looking sparse on the inside of the DL. As far as I can tell, we don't have anyone on the interior DL after Van Den Berg that has played significant minutes. The guy from UCF has been a role player and nobody knows if he can make the jump to 1st team starter in the ACC. I sincerely hope I am totally wrong about the interior DL and that we have a bunch of "Dudes" that have been biding their time on the scout team.
