Former 4-star recruit out of Coach Brent Key’s hometown and high school in Trussville, AL. 2.5 career sacks and 26 tackles in 32 games as a rotational 3-4 edge.

From his high school scouting report: "Also shifts down to play defensive tackle at times." 6'2", 250.
I wonder if our coaches are thinking some of the edge guys can be bulked up to play in the interior. We've got a plethora of edge/rush guys and a dearth of DLs.

Why did he leave playoff team ???

"An early enrollee, Finkley played 162 snaps over 12 games as a true freshman in 2022, recording seven tackles (one solo) with half a tackle for loss, half a sack, and one quarterback hurry. As a sophomore, Finkley played 284 snaps over 14 games with 14 tackles (eight solo), three tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble, but saw his playing time decrease to 95 snaps over six games as the Longhorns upgraded the edge position by landing former AAC Defensive Player of the Year Trey Moore from UTSA and consensus five-star prospect Colin Simmons from Duncanville. Finkley recorded three tackles in 2024."

247 saying we wants to make a decision before the national championship game which is January 20th. So could move quickly with visits here. From Twitter I think he’s at Minnesota today.

He is freezing his southern butt in Minneapolis today if that's where he is. His hometown is next door to Key's just outside of Birmingham.

Playing time. He's a rotational player and one of many for UT. He wants a more stable role with more consistent playing time.
But I think the question is, why leave a team in the midst of the playoffs, with still a chance at a national title? Why not wait 'til the next portal in April? It does seem a bit curious.

There's a lot of reasons to jump now, not including any personal reasons he may be looking to transfer. Spring Semester coming up, NIL bidding, more roster options now vs the small window in April, time to establish himself now, and the option to transfer somewhere now and if the fit ain't right, he could bounce somewhere different if needed in April.
