Nam very likely created a lot of dwags with that 4-year deferment.I would probably have become a Dawg, to keep my student deferment and avoid going to ‘Nam

You had to take 12 hours per quarter to maintain the deferment as a full time student. if you dropped below that , you fell out and had to register with the draft board……..no pressure though. Crazy times- assassination of MLK and RFK , marching and rioting and the Democratic convention. Lived in Towers dorm that summer, on the Interstate side, no AC . …..Walked “ The Hill “ to Skiles, uphill both ways ……..blah, blah , blahNam very likely created a lot of dwags with that 4-year deferment.
It’s like the Farm system in baseball. Sad.It's sorta a tiered system right now in this crazy NIL world we live in we are hopefully that GT can get to the Top Tier and are building for that got to keep winning and building good recruiting classes and then we will see them be able to hold onto more talented players AND pickup higher level transfers too.
Upper Echelon - The perennial elite programs they are targeting and spending "BIG" money to pull the productive players from weaker/building schools in the P4 conferences or top guys from the G4 conferences. They are more likely to go out and get top talent without losing large swaths of production year in and year out. The majority of losses from these groups are perhaps skilled guys who are buried in the Depth Chart and/or looking for a chance for playing time.
Middle Echelon - I feel like GT is on the upper end of this tier and if can keep winning will get into the upper end. Has to be very focused on where they allocate NIL funds can't be forced yearly to just be extorted by top players for crazy money. Yearly will see a handful of productive players and lower level players leave out of the program. In general are not able to compete for the highest level NIL transfer talent outside of a few programs stealing proven guys if lucky. Most use portal to bring in G4 guys who have proved to be productive guys and can come in and help a team (Syeed Gibbs/Jackson Hawes/Rutledge types) who believed to be ready to helpful at P4 level and guys either by injury or depth at position leave a strong P4 team looking for another opportunity (Haynes King/EJ Lightsey)
Lower Echelon - G4 Teams or lesser with Productive players who shine and play well. The sadly get worst of it here as they will get poached from both above them to varying degrees and will have a harder time to continually recruit HS and maintain a steady roster. The will pick up players from Middle and occasional Upper tier who realize they are better suited for this level of compeition and come down and find playing time and chance to play still too.
A very happy conference that anyone would be happy to play for and most fans happily support once they are happily ensconced in that happy conference. If someone were to compare the total mumber portal entries for each P4 conference, I guess the B1G has the least.
I mean, Lane Kiffin has done much worse and nobody has even batted an eyeI'm not saying GT should tamper, but what if a couple of our players went across town with a box of wings from Magic City and had a "conversation" with their new friend?

This and some "Elements" of the European Soccer Leagues where with some success or failures can see you bump up or downIt’s like the Farm system in baseball. Sad.
I remember it well. I still had to register for the draft, though the draft per se ended a year before my 18th birthday with the end of the war. Sobering moment.... if that war had broken back out. Still have that card today as a souvenir of my life.
