I'd like to see MJ start the game, TBH. I always like seeing guys who've put sweat equity into our program get rewarded. On top of that, he's just a great representative for GT.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works sometimes. It would not surprise me to see MJ start, and it wouldn't surprise me to see TM start. I think one of the two starts. I also think LJ will play a role.

Poll is flawed. Shamire Devine is not provided as a selection. Which is sad, because he's go-to guy in our new Divine Battering Ram offense. You guys just don't "get" CPJ -- not only is he being cagey re the starting QB, he's being double-secret cagey -- because it'll be a whole new world when the Devine Option is unleashed. (y)

I understand your frustration but if fans close to the program are clueless then just imagine what it would be like for Tennessee's defensive coordinator. The offense might be a spread flex bone but you have three very different quarterbacks and just about any of the three could be the starter. I think it is less likely we will see LJ but it would really not surprise me. I prefer TM myself because he runs the triple option the best but all three have their strong points. We will see.
Are you suggesting that we have to resort to gimmickry and subterfuge in order to gain an advantage? This may be indicative or our confidence level. Oh my, if Shoop knows who we are starting, we're doomed.

Since a guy in ga tech ticket office who knows nothing says the rumor is M J, I have changed from L J to M J.
Stand by for rumors

It makes sense for the most experienced QB to start, but CPJ has commented repeatedly about # of reps in practice and MJ hasn't practiced ...
I get the whole experience thing, but really it makes sense for the best QB to start. Experience doesn't always mean the best though.

TM should have the most experience in reps with temamates this year, MJ has more game experience. Both are very important. I think TM's athleticism will be more fun to watch than MJ so I hope he gets the start and does a great job. What really matters is who CPJ thinks can run the offense most effectively.

Take CPJ's comments before this game with a grain of salt. he has proven to have played the media to keep things from UT.
Would you say exactly who was playing?
Why would you bang up your probable starting QB in practice who has proven he can take a lick?
You think CPJ will start a FR in a new environment with 90,000 screaming fans vs. a SEC team? no chance, too much room for error.
I would bet my check he knows who will start and so does the team.

Just my thoughts on it.

If you have ever played this game, you know practice reps don't mean a whole lot sometimes.
We had guys get 1,000 reps a week that never sniffed the field.
Once you know, you don't sacrifice yours guys in practice.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if TM starts.

IMO, experience could be a big factor in this case ... national TV, lots of pre-game hype, Top 25 opponent from rival conference.
That's why starting TM is unsettling, but again IMO, I think TM is going to be more ready to play than MJ.

Aren't we also overestimating the significance of the impact to the Vols preparation regarding who starts? If TM started instead of MJ would that change their preparation significantly? Personally I doubt it. Even if LJ started I don't believe they would think "crap we are screwed, we didn't prepare for this guy".

I did play and agree that practice reps and game reps aren't equal but practice reps are an important consideration otherwise players would never be asked to start of others with more experience. They are both factors and CPJ will take into account both (and other factors as well). To hyperbolize the point, if MJ had gotten hurt in the VT game and just started practicing this coming Monday would you say that his game experience is preferable to all the practice reps TM would have gotten? Btw, TM has some game experience as well although less than MJ.

I think he know 100 % who's going to play. And maybe he wouldn't let his starter get hit in practice, but I guarantee his starter would be getting reps with a no contact jersey. You don't play scared and say I can't play this guy because of what grade he's in. The best player will get to be the starter. Many teams have played a freshman in HUGE games. For the record I don't think one of the freshmen start.

I think it makes a big difference in their defensive game planning. If they were 100% sure MJ was starting, they would be watching VT film and preparing for a lot of QB follows, midline, etc. If they were sure TM or JJ was starting, they would be watching JeT film. And if they were sure LJ was starting, I think they might dig up some VL film.

Yes, we'll still run a lot of our base plays no matter who's under center. But each of our QBs brings unique skills.

of course not.
I do agree CPJ will take it and choose the best QB.
TM game time was mop up duty, btw.

Kid can fly, not pass very well. I think he needs to be AB.
