Here is the Wikipedia article on Corey Dennis. He is Urban Meyer's son-in-law and is only 29 years old. Played mostly special teams at Tech under CPJ from 2011 - 2014. Becoming an offensive coordinator at a P5 school at age 29 would be no small task. I might rather see him come here as a very well-paid QB coach and ultimately be promoted to OC depending on how things play out.

No, I’ll take that back about Freeze. That’s on him, but there is a damning documentary on that NCAA mess that Mullen kicked off that certainly had Freze in the doghouse before his call girl dials came out into the open.

He ain't leaving Ohio St for the same job. I am not even sure he would come as OC. He may hold out for a bigger job. I would probably talk to him, though.

We just demoted our DC, who was a rising star assistant but had never been a DC before. Count me out for Dennis. If he had no tech connection he wouldn’t even be considered

Brent Key left Alabama to come here for the same job. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but with a pay raise, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dennis and his wife - both of whom are Tech alums - make the move from Columbus to Atlanta.

I would LOVE to have Corey Dennis back at GT...but for his sake, and his career development, I hope he doesn't return as our OC. I think Dennis has a very bright future as a coach. He's an outstanding recruiter, and he's been credited for helping develop some really good QBs at OSU. In terms of pedigree, going be to hard to find someone as well versed in the spread option (under CPJ) and spread passing (Meyer, Day) than Dennis. He just needs real experience being a coordinator. Coming home to GT to OC for CGC under the current circumstances would be tough for anyone. For a first time coordinator it could set his career back years.
OF course, there's something to be said for taking chances and having confidence in your abilities. You're not going to find much more of a "Tech Man" than Corey, who also married a Tech Lady. He may have some unique offense he's cooked up marrying CPJ's spread option running with Ryan Day's passing offense. Like I said above, he's a VERY good recruiter and developer of QB talent. Meyer wasn't the one that promoted him to QB coach, it was Day AFTER Meyer left so you can't say it was all nepotism (BTW, if you don't know how coaching works, nepotism and who you know play a HUGE part in people getting jobs).
If it is Dennis, I'm going to 100% support it. It'll be an exciting hire for us, and a potentially shrewd hire for CGC jumping on Dennis's shooting star before it takes off.

I think giving Dennis the role of QB coach/Co-OC or Passing Game Coordinator wouldn’t be a bad move if you bring in a more experienced OC along side him. He’s obviously talented outside of being Urban Meyers son in law, otherwise he would be a Jags offensive assistant and not the QB coach for one of the top offenses in college football.

Key got a promotion to assistant head coach by coming here. It wasn't just the same job.
I've seen a few folks suggest this route. With 3 guys leaving, hiring Dennis as QB/Co-Oc and another experienced Co-Oc playcaller would only allow us to add one defensive coach. So either a DBs coach with Collins taking over as DC or a coach that would serve as DB coach/DC.

I believe most coordinators usually have their own position group as well so it wouldn't surprise me to see the DC also be the DBs coach, or for Collins to take on working with the DBs himself, or some split between safeties and corners. I think any of those are reasonable scenarios.

Agree that it sounds reasonable on the defensive side. But doesn't seem to make sense that we'd have a QB/Co-OC and a Co-OC/playcaller without a position group.

You know, I saw that too. But I don’t know how you judge college - pros.
Joe Brady was considered a prodigy for the saints, went to LSU and Joe Burrow literally doubled his passing yards from 2800 - 5600, won a Heisman and maybe had the greatest season of all-time. Now he’s the OC at Carolina and their offense is ranked near the bottom of the league. They weren’t great last year either. I don’t keep up with the NFL, maybe there are factors (injuries, roster talent, etc).
Someone more knowledgeable of the NFL feel free to correct me. I don’t care if we pursue Godsey or not but i don’t think it’s fair to judge his potential based on Miami’s current output under him or even things that happened with the Texans.
