CBG's teams seem to have one game like this every year, where they stay with (or defeat) a team on the road we have no business playing with. Miami comes to mind a couple of years ago, and there was also one last year, I'm sure of it (but age makes the memory fade, and I'm too lazy to look it up).

This was a nice effort. Now can we see this consistently?

Syracuse

Hopefully this wasn't a fluke like those ones and something consistent

My thoughts are still peculating, as I had family obligations this afternoon. Initial thoughts:

We coulda shoulda won this game.

We were lucky to be tied at the end of regulation.

We still have little ability to defend penetration. That seems to be our defensive weakness.

ND could not hit anything beyond ten feet and we still could not stop them when they really needed a basket.

Why would anyone play us man to man?

This was the highest level of intensity I have sen from this team.

Maybe I underestimated them.

MGH is now playing as I hoped. Mitchell could be a force in the ACC if he had hands.

Good game. Better than I expected.

I just saw the stats-if we could get these every game,we would be ok.Good loss, if there is such.
just We have to get more scoring from guards.

I wish we would have shot a 3 at the end of the first overtime. When you are on the road against a ranked team like that, I think you sometimes have to take those risks. They dominated us in the first overtime and we were lucky to have a chance only due to their poor free throw shooting. Would have been nice to see us go for it. With our generally poor 3pt shooting I certainly understand why we didn't though.

Ken's 3 takeaways from Saturday's game:
1. Season could turn out better than expected
2. There's still lots to improve on (close-range misses, empty possessions)
3. Jorgenson will keep getting better as the season goes on

Definitely agree with 2 & 3 above..

We (particularly Chuck) missed a ton of gimmes near the basket. With our focus being on pounding the ball inside, we must finish when we get those types of good looks. I love the way that Travis playing right now. He's really beginning to take off.

IMO, you see a big drop-off in the flow of the offense when he's not in the game. That's not to say that Heath is playing poorly, but I don't think that he is as fast as Travis or as strong with the ball. Jorg has a very good understanding of when to push it and when to set the half-court offense, and he is tremendous at creating for others. I've also been pleasantly surprised with his defensive abilities as well. The next step for Jorgensen is to become a better scorer.

Yeah I really like the Jorg. Seems he's getting healthier so we're seeing his true self lately. Good effort vs a highly-ranked team.

This is not meant to disparage us at all but man NDame looked really ordinary to me considering they were so highly-ranked.

I agree.. I think that we caught them when they were a little sleepy and looking ahead to UNC, but that was a game that we really should have won. We outplayed them for large portions of the game and forced them to play our game/tempo, however, I have to give them credit, they did what it took to win the game. I'm a firm believer that good teams find ways to win when they don't play their best.

With that said, it looks like they have feasted on cupcakes in the non-conference schedule. They have some good pieces (I really like Connaughton), but outside of he, Grant and Jackson, I didn't see much to get excited about. They've got virtually no post game or size on the interior, and that will come back to haunt them.

Don't get me wrong, they will make some noise and they will win some big games, but I look for them to come back to earth during conference play.

Add to all that, they looked soft as tissue in the frontcourt. We definitely struggled to stay in front of their guards.

I was hugely impressed by Grant.. We simply couldn't stop him. They would screen Marcus and whomever was left guarding him looked like a matador as he went to the basket. Poor Tadric stepped in to help too late and caught a knee to the throat on that dunk. Complete posterization!!

That dunk broke Twitter on Saturday afternoon, making Tadric famous. I think his effort & scrappiness on defense has been better past couple of games, but unfortunately, we need to keep Q on the weakest offensive option until he gets stronger/faster.

Couldn't agree more.. Without a doubt, Q's biggest deficiency is man-to-man defense. He just doesn't have quick enough feet to guard perimeter oriented guys. With his length, he needs to be playing off of his guy almost daring him to shoot a J.

As others mentioned in this thread, Cremins was wondering if we'd go to a zone. When Q is in the game is exactly when we should play a zone, given his length will allow him to close out, while he doesn't get caught on picks in man-to-man.

Yeah, I was gonna just leave that dunk alone. Hope that doesn't discourage Jackson from continuing to hustle.

Cremins was hilarious on the broadcast. He was coaching both teams down the stretch and, of course, everything he said would happen came to fruition (just about).

Q's biggest deficiency on defense is his lack of strength. He gets pushed around a good bit inside and lacks the quickness to be a good defender in the backcourt.
