They run them on limited batches through a different manufacturing process not built for scale, but built for efficiency (keep cost down for limited run merchandise).I picked up a cool pair of Adidas team-issued shoes second-hand (technically used but no wear).
Does anyone know why there’s so much more team gear that doesn’t make it to market through Adidas? I’m not an IE but I’d imagine if you go to the trouble of making 100 of something, why not make more to sell to general public?
They do this so athletes have more “on demand” items and don’t fall victim to the supply chain / planning process required to manufacture at scale items and 18 month + planning cycles.
Edited to add: there are many places to look for that type of gear. eBay and https://theplayerstrunk.com/collections/georgia-tech for example
