We just went to A Complete Unknown, the movie about Bod Dylan's early days. First movie we've been to since the pandemic and it was worth every penny. Just a great movie about a great artist. The interesting thing was that Timothee (his parents are French) Chalamet (Dylan), Ed Norton (Pete Seeger), Monica Barbaro (Joan Baez), and Boyd Holbrook (Johnny Cash) all played their own instruments and sang themselves. Barbaro is a revelation as Baez and who knew Norton could play banjo? (One problem = Chalamet has a better voice then Dylan. But, hey, so do I.) All the music was recorded using vintage mics and recording equipment too. And the songs are terrific. And so is the acting; Chalamet is the first actor I've seen who catches that supercilious air that Dylan has. And the story is terrific too; the guy comes to New York with a guitar from the iron mine country in Minnesota and is a major force in music in 2.5 years.
So drop everything and go see it.
