Here's the article on the financial effects on the NCAA. They have an insurance policy that will recoup some but not all of the lost revenue. They had a reserve fund that had $700M in it as of 2014 but that is down to $415M now and will likely have to be tapped again to cover the shortfall from the lost Tourney revenue.

It doesn't talk about this in the article but it will almost certainly mean a little less money for schools over the next 6 years. Since no units will be handed out to conferences this year with no Tourney games played schools will effectively only get 5 years with of units rather than 6 for the next 1/2 decade.

I apologize for the lack of formatting of this chart. But hopefully the point is easy to understand. (I'm only showing a few countries so not to over clutter). The chart tracks positive cases for every European country and the US from the day they first hit 600. That was Feb 27th for Italy, March 9th for the US. Basically every country is showing spread around or above the rate Italy has shown.

Spain's rate of spread is actually running about twice what Italy's is.
If the social distancing doesn't slow the rate of spread the US is going to be in a crisis state in about 2 weeks.

The Mexican soccer league is the only professional sports league I am aware of that has not suspended play. Not sure if there are lines on their games.

FWIW, the Maryland governor just signed an emergency order closing all MD casinos, racetracks and simulcast betting facilities indefinitely. The hotels adjacent to the casinos can remain open.

If you want to do something nice for folks impacted by the current state of affairs, restaurants are getting hammered with low revenue. Consider ordering to go or delivery, if places are open. Also, buying gift cards (for later use) is a great way to give them cash flow when they need it.

I interpret this as suggesting that schools remained closed until May 2020.

Just read an article that said the insiders with the NBA are saying the league believes the best-case scenario for restarting the NBA season right now is mid-to-late June.

Given that is the best-case they are feeling right now that makes me believe the odds of their being no sports until after July 4th is fairly high.

As far as schools, i'm thinking the odds are pretty high that no in person teaching is done the rest of this school year. Any schooling is going to be virtual. Fortunately our one remaining child is homeschooled so this doesn't really change anything that significantly for us other than i'm not sure how he would do his in person chemistry labs.

If she likes this idea, it was your idea. If she starts to hit you over the head with a bow, it was @kg01 ’s plan. Here it is:
1)Do a remote ceremony, with an online viewing RSVP passworded for the guests. Only live attendees are: Mr. & Mrs., Best man and woman, Ordained official, two rings or bands, all become the show. The main principals.
2)Not on a Sunday. Have all guests go through the local designated Chick-Fil-A drive thru. They drop off their presents and give a/or a few coupon(s) to the window employee and get the “reception food,” which comes with a brownie in lieu of cake.

Imagine the savings? Should leave some funds for the Bachelor Party and the new pad.

The loss of gate revenue and concession revenue is larger than I thought for major league sports. something to think about if this ends up running into the next college football season as the big colleges get alot more revenue from game day than a smaller school like GT. There would also likely have to be negotiations over sponsorship money and potentially even TV money.

Most leagues have in the contracts they don't have to pay players for games cancelled.
Also, the loss of revenue this year means the caps next year for professional leagues could potentially go down rather than increase.
