Well, given that we are smack dab in the middle of one of the worst three years stretches in the history of Georgia Tech football it seems like it’s been pretty damn easy for everyone else to do better than this…

Times we have been this bad
79-81
29-31
1892-1903

We didn’t even have a paid coach during those early years, so basically Collins is producing as poorly over three years as any Tech coach ever has.

So yeah, he needs to figure it out. He’s getting paid a ton of money to do just that, so I don’t really feel that bad for all the flack the guy is catching.
IIrc, we changed coaches between 79 and 80. Curry won 6 games in his 3rd year.

Worst 3 yrs by the same coach in nearly a century.

If CGC were a dawg fan who wanted to keep his job ruining GT football, what would he do differently?

Does anywhere here get nauseous when someone posts about CGC being some great defensive mind? It‘s a joke right? He is the head coach at his “dream” job and we are at the end of year 3. He is a horrible defensive coach. It’s been 3 years not 2 games. And if you don’t want to use the “eye” test the analytics also are in. Every week from Citadel onward we all hope we see the great defensive mind emerge. It’s gotten worse. We are the team now that every running back, every receiver, and every QB can’t wait to get to because they will pad their stats. Jurkovec is salivating to throw for 350 plus on Saturday. We will play zone and the players will be lost and Jurkovec will sit in the pocket and pick us apart. It’s gonna be Pickett all over again.

This has been my biggest disappointment with CGC. He came in known as a defensive specialist, but his defenses have been close to abysmal (in terms of defensive FEI):

2019: 93
2020: 88
2021: 94 (*Through 8 games)

To his credit, he's increased the talent on our roster. You can say that increase in talent has been wasted with no appreciable improvement in performance. In fact, at this rate, with the 5th most talented roster in the ACC according to 247 recruiting service, we are on track to have the worst DFEI in CGC's 3 years at GT.

How bad has our defense been? The worst season we had since the Bill Lewis was the HC is CPJ's 2015 2-9 season. That year our DFEI was 48. That was under Ted Roof. Remember Roof? GT fans' favorite punching bag until he left for Appalachian State. Roof actually had multiple DFEI seasons in the 40's and 50's. Ted Roof also had less talent to work with.

IMO, if you have a calling card, but you're no longer good at what your calling card is, then we have a problem. This is like if CPJ came in and our rushing offense was horrendous.

When we beat UNC early this season, and we put on one of the most dominant defensive performances GT has had in a long time, I thought we may have turned the corner. Maybe it finally clicked for our guys and we would get similar results going forward. Unfortunately, it's looking more and more like fool's gold.

I REALLY want this to work out for CGC because that's what's best for GT. Transitions from one coach to another is difficult...and costly (BTW, this is another reason GT fans should be grateful with how CPJ handled leaving GT). However, as each week passes, my confidence that CGC will be able to turn the ship in the right direction erodes. It's just very difficult for me to imagine how he can do it. Maybe he cleans house with coordinators and some position coaches and those new coaches figure out how to coach the 5th most talented roster in the ACC.

I hope I'm wrong about this...and I would be happy to be wrong.

We were frustrated with Roof's bend-but-don't-break defense, because it couldn't get off the field.
Now we've got the bend and break defense. One silver lining, though - they get off the field much faster.

John Simon, the movie critic for New York magazine for a while, was called the Vicar of Vitriol for quite a few of his toxic reviews. I think we have some posters who could challenge his tenure as the Vicar. We're at 133 pages of vitriol right now with no sign of abatement.
Have you ever read any of his reviews? Nobody here could touch his shoelaces.

Big game tomorrow for Collins and the program. It's going to be really tough to beat ND and nearly impossible to beat GA. A win would provide some needed relief for everyone and show recruits that maybe we're making progress and to stick with us. If we can keep ND close and not lose to GA by more than 30 or 40, maybe Collins can figure out what he needs to do to clean all of this up. Just really hoping we can get pressure on the QB, not lose receivers, actually tackle the guy with the ball and not turn it over. Is that too much to ask???

When I look at coaches I admire, you can write their strategy down on a single piece of paper. Bear Bryant said he didn't care what offense or defense he ran, so long as it produced the results (which he wrote down) he wanted. Measure to a result. Gene Stallings (who was Dabo's mentor) was the same.

I don't think Geoff has a system or concept he is coaching to. Does anyone see it? When I worked with Toyota, the whole program was ... "Measure and manage to a process, not a person." I just can't figure Geoff's out ....
