Kyle Kennard

Well well well. I just saw who cost South Carolina the game vs LSU pretty much with an unnecessary high hit on a QB after throwing a pick-6. None other than Kyle Kennard.

I always said he was a decent edge rusher but he has a horrible habit of reaching high, getting facemask penalties called on him on crucial plays of the game. Well. He showed out yet again.

New school. Same issues.

We could use him this year foreal though. Go Jackets
This didn't age well 😕

Sure it did. His penalty cost USCe the LSU game, which kept them from making the CFP. That cost USCe massive $$$. So, while it may not have affected KK, it certainly did have a seriously negative affect on USCe.
I can only assume you blame Haynes King for our loss to uga then? Since you completely ignore the horrible call/no calls by the ref.

The year Kyle had is attributed to in his own words "south carolina has the best coaches in the country." Big Foot was also on the moon landing for those that care?

So in your eyes, his stellar play throughout the ENTIRE SEASON has little to no impact on South Crap-a-lacky being in the discussion for the playoff?

He played like a man possessed all year - it's okay to jealous...it's like realizing that the girl that dumped you in high school went on to become a SI Swimsuit model. Sometimes it be like that.

This is ridiculous.
What? It's ridiculous that his penalty was the difference between them being 9-3 and 10-2? In the end, it may not have kept them out of the CFP, but it did have a profound effect on where they were. That being said, they may not have been 9-3 without his efforts. I had a few bourbons last night and a bad day yesterday, so I was in a contrarian mood.

Are you talking about the GT/uga game or the USEe/LSU game? Read my last post.
I was comparing the two. The call on Kennard blocking Nussmeier on the 100yd int TD has rightfully been criticized as one of the worst calls by officials all season, just like the no call by the refs when King was targeted was terrible.

I think it's ridiculous to essentially boil a whole season down to one play. I hear your explanation tho.

I hadn't heard the USCe call being criticized. I watched the game with a huge USCe fan. I don't remember it being that controversial and he certainly didn't jump up and down. I really don't like those roughing calls just to protect the QB. If it's overly aggressive and the QB is unprotected, for sure. I'd have to go back and look at the play. It wasn't the first time KK had done something like that.

Didnt KK get some sort of award?

Seems like we should get $$$ for very good ol and dl position coaches.

I would have loved to have had KK this year. We probably would not have had Height, but I think with him and Yondjouen would have been better.

I don't really understand what your second sentence is intending. Are you saying we need more $$ for better OL/DL position coaches or that we need to give our OL/DL position coaches more money? The coaches that coached KK aren't the same that we have now, so I'm not sure what you're saying.

Regardless, that's a blind-side block and is illegal (and was totally unnecessary). The fact that he pushed him instead of laying him out with his shoulder is where it gets iffy for me. I don't think I would have thrown a flag, although I might have. Had the QB not been blind-sided, he would have probably maintained his feet.

That awesome blind-side block that Guyton had against VT in 2006 is a penalty today. Guyton laying the wood

Edit: not a fan of on3's reporting.

First team all American by three publications. SEC defensive player of the year. Bronco Nagurski trophy (best defensive player). First team on the Senior Bowl. And more

They threw a flag for unnecessary roughness, not for an illegal blindside block. Blindside block requires forcible contact, which this was not as best I can tell - forcible contact seems to be an undefined/poorly defined term, but nothing about what Kennard did was dangerous in terms of player safety. He pushed him from the front with his hands and Nussmeier fell down.

imo if it was any other player than the QB it would have been a no call.

Or if he doesn’t IMMEDIATELY throw his hands up and betray his intentions….

Wow a necro-bump from someone likely with a personal relationship with Kyle got you guys all riled up and going at it that easily. I'm making some assumptions based on their first and only post being in a thread about him. Seems like they came here looking for something.

Bottom line is I don't think any of us were happy to see him go. But we've hashed out the challenges of the grad student athlete at GT ad nauseum. It just seems to be a fact of life we all have to deal with. Is there anyone that watched him play this year and said, "boy, I'm glad he's gone?" Highly doubt it. Even the poster that got called out pointed out one issue he noticed and closed with "we could use him forreal though."

Congrats on the accolades, Kyle. Wish you could have continued it for Ma Tech. Good luck on Sundays next year.
