Is Clemson Really That Good

The ACC is horrible this year. Look at UNC getting DESTROYED by a really bad ECU team. FSU almost lost to Stamford when Sameford committed 5 TURNOVERS. VT dominated a bad FSU team. Miami got destroyed by a mediocre LSU team that will finish at the bottom of the SEC West. Clemson is very talented but I do not think at this point they can hang with Alabama. It’s up and down and the ACC is definitely going to have a down year unless all teams dramatically improve.

Definitely agree that the ACC is down. 2016 was incredible but most teams have taken a step (or 2) back.

Only thing that should ever matter is wins and losses and they know how to win. I'm willing to bet their LB's will get a good *** chewing after a bad performance and they'll be better. Clemson is in a bit of a bad situation though QB wise. You can see Dabo trying to phase Kelly Bryant out but Bryant put together 2 great drives and Dabo was stuck with him the rest of the game. Bryant isn't capable of making the down field throws required to beat good defenses which will hinder them come playoff time again. They really need Lawrence to take over sometime this year.

They are a really talented football team with a ton of experience in big games. Playing one bad game and still winning in a hostile environment isn't really a cause for concern. If anything it will make them better. They are almost a guarantee for the playoffs.

The difference between Tech and the factories, is our Football Program standards are higher than most factory regular student standards. This means the factories have virtually NO standards---two words---Malcom Mitchell. In the case of academic hurdles, it's the CPJ College of Facts.

It's hard for anyone to go and play at A&M. Clemson should win every remaining game in the regular season by 10+ we probably lose by 14-17 points as the spread will be like 15 or so.

knoxjacket, not sure why you would say "even" L'ville since their admission standards are well above average, but their SAT avg is just over 1100 and their gpas average a B+. When your football team's avg SAT average is at or near the top of all public D-1 football teams average, you are probably not far from a lot of regular students from other schools. Techs SAT/gpa numbers have skyrocketed since the published study was done showing us at the top of D-1 football programs and that study showed a 1000+ SAT and 3.2 gpa---so what might you think our football teams average today? Especially in light of our graduation rates for football players the past decade or so.
It's common for football players to score 200-300 points lower than the regular student bodies at their school. Since our regular student avg is about 1440, what does that indicate? Yes, we have "exceptions", but not many (certainly not as many as I'd prefer), but we are talking averages. Our football teams are more distanced from our own regular students than almost any program, yet are above almost any other football program. There's no place to hide, which isn't the case in even some elite schools. So, where's the lie?

Agree 684Bee, for the most part, but even though the Mitchell story is such a feel good tale, the fact remains that CMR knew full well that he was signing an illiterate (by college standards) player. Doing this at Tech would put the program out of business very quickly due to APR. And this from someone who believes we should admit more exceptions---which btw, without which we would have the football legacy of RICE.

You are probably one of these people who think these football factory’s don’t buy these players cars and trucks and put them up in lake houses and leave money in their lockers after games and as far special admits Clem’s son won’t releasehow many they have now but the last time they did it was over 70 percent and yes GT does take a few special admits but the problem with a lot of them they can’t stay in school.

In the ACC, Clemson is really good, the Dookies look solid, and I think Vippysue is for real, even though they seem to always start the year fast and finish on a down note. Da U is a headscratcher - talented, but do they have the staying power? And FSU is an ungodly mess. Taggart may be in over his head, and Nole Nation is not patient.

Our team is doomed, of course. We all know that, we just don't want to admit it to ourselves.
