Yep. Uga usually plays a cupcake before us, while we always have a legit game.

So why don't we? {rhetorical}

Is it because the ACC games are set and we have to work around? If so, more gist for the conspiracy theorists.

SEC tries to protect their teams by having no league games before “rivalry week” so those teams playing their OOC in-state rival have a nice tune-up against a cupcake. ACC apparently doesn’t give a crap about trying to make the teams & conference look better.

I think it's just a scheduling philosophy. I know our offense takes a little while to get going. It might serve us better to start the season against Alcorn St.

I think that's part of it. But

I've often called for an easier OCC schedule for us here. But I also realize that this isn't the easiest thing in the world to pull off. It is hard to get teams to schedule us for one or two games. All they have to do to decide if they want to play Tech is look at what happens to teams that play us without extensive experience against the O. They get clobbered, with Tech often running up 500 - 600 yards of total offense and, at a minimum, 38 points. Being willing to schedule a team that you think is going to beat you is one thing; a lot of teams do that for the money or exposure. Being willing to schedule a team that will run you off the football field and make your program look really bad is another. Our ACC foes don't have much choice, so they adapt over time. But our potential OCC opponents don't have that option. I think this is why we keep doing insane stuff like scheduling ND or UCF; they're good enough to not be afraid of playing us.

I confess that I don't know a way out of this, except to start chasing OCC opponents from out of our region. We should, however, do something.

Virginia is the only ACC team out of 14 who plays an FCS-like team this weekend. So of course we are the team they play the following week. What are the odds? What are the odds that always happens?

Georgia Tech plays more out of conference road P5 games than like half of the entire SEC conference combined.
