I don’t buy the FSU/Clemson to the SEC thing. They may want to jump, but if they think they can compete year to year in that league, they got another think coming. Dabbo leaves and Clemson becomes another SC. FSU will hardly be relevant. And I don’t see Georgia, SC, or Florida agreeing to it.
But I do want Prime Time.

Where’s our Billionaires?

Come on J Batt. Let’s make a splash. Make serious moves.

The Adidas deal is soon to be done, correct?

FSU and Clemson will go to SEC. Be prepared.

And Deion can help in any major changes and pull a better apparel deal.

No thank you to Deion. I think we can do much better. Just my opinion. Sure he would be a big splash but I think it would end in a big thud.

Also, his latest interaction with Eddie Robinson Jr. did not spark confidence in his professionalism. I know that was just a one time incident but he lost a great deal of my interest after watching and listening about the situation. I want a head coach that has some maturity and professionalism in the midst of problems.

I think we can do better. We don't need a big splash or some marketing bomb. We need a solid hire that can produce consistent results and build for the future. I am still interested to see how Brent Key finishes out the season. As of right now, he is that solid hire.

I believe the Adidas contract runs out in July 2024 as it was a 6 year deal.

I do think our path into the Big10 (even possibly the SEC depending on how the Mega-Conference scenario plays out.) has gone up significantly with Pres. Cabrera and J Batt. Dr. Cabrera is talking like he's pitching to the Presidents of the Big10 why Tech belongs: academics, resources, being at the highest levels in everything we do.

Don't want Deion, personally. I think he's more style than substance.

I hope Batt is a tougher negotiator than TStan was and gets us a favorable apparel deal. Also, next time the radio rights are up not just bend over for 680 the Dawg.

The whole situation with Eddie Robinson Jr was sparked by jealousy in my opinion. I know one of the state troopers that works for the school and escorts the coaches on the field and he said the same thing. Coach Robinson was in his feeling about something that was out of Deion’s control and he reacted like a lil girl.

Give me Deion and watch how every 4 and 5 star DB give Tech a closer look. My brother in law and cousin are UGA fans(can’t choose family) and they said on their little message board they’re hoping we keep Brent Key because that means we don’t care about winning. That’s their opinion but I kind of agree with the idea of Brent Key feels like we’re settling and that we can do better.

I am sure it was jealousy induced. That still does not merit a teenager reaction. One of the things about professionalism is rising above the levels of those who stoop. CGC failed at this with Narduzzi as well imo. I want a coach who has poise.

You can get all the 4 and 5 star athletes you want. If the X's and O's are not there then you may end up with a debacle. CGC has brought GT recruiting up and the overall 4 star talent at GT is at an all time high. And here we are with 3-9 seasons...

I think the call on Key is too early. But he does have 20 years experience and was under some really good head coaches in his career. There is a long list of assistants being really good head coaches such as Dabo and Smart. No opinion yet on Key but it would not be settling to hire him.

Just be a serious, professional, businessman. Set high standards and hold everyone accountable to achieve results that are aligned with those standards. Spend the school's money like it was your own, build a nice reserve, keep your income higher than your expenses and invest wisely. Set a moral example for everyone in the organization to follow. If you do those things, we will be successful.

Collins and Sanders were in opposite roles in their interactions.

Sanders wanted to bro hug the other coach similar to how Narduzzi wanted to chat with Collins after the game. Neither Robinson nor Collins were obliged to do what the other coach wanted. That's not a lack of professionalism.

In the Narduzzi and Collins situation they basically brushed it off afterwards and downplayed it, as it should have been. Token apology by Collins and downplaying by Narduzzi. Even if the comments/explanations afterwards weren't the genuine feelings, that is acting professional to not bring more attention to the minor bs.

Sanders and Robinson decided to escalate it afterwards which is where the lack of professionalism was present (imo from both of them but more so from Robinson with his whole "He's not SWAC" thing).

Everything I see tells me the TV folks are deciding all the conference realignment. From all I've put together my guess is we end up in BIG 10, their TV folks and conference want the Atlanta media Mkt and GT is AAU school. My guess is Cabrera's way to sell the academia folks on supporting the FB and therefore the athletic programs because FB is where the money comes from as most know, is the BIG 10 has stated that a commitment to athletics and academics is important to the conference schools. They have stated that there is collaboration, cooperation amongst all the big ten schools on research and academic projects and that seems to be very important to them going fwd. IMO this will catch the attention of the "hill" folks and may be one of the reasons Cabrera has stepped forward like he has. I have come away from this seeing that the Big 10 is maybe much more than athletics. It is what I have put together, certainly not the gospel. Through all of this I have come to wonder if we don't also have to make some pretty sizeable improvements to BD stadium. Could be we are looking at more than just our sizeable debt obligation being in the way, therefore a rather sizeable sum of money, this is just a question I see as a possibility not anything I have heard mentioned. If you play with the big boys gonna have to spend a little IMO.

Lots of comments on this thread. In no particular order,

  • Deion Sanders. Deion is not coming to Tech. First, he's coaching to make an impact at HBCU's and that's not Tech. Second, he's probably a bit too much flash for a school that isn't flashy. Third, he's had health problems and lost some toes and has trouble standing. Can you get around that? Yes. But it's a demanding job and will be even more demanding at a P5 school.
  • Adidas and getting a good deal. Tech is a small market school with minimal sales of swag. There's not enough volume to amortize an upfront cash payment, which is why Tech gets free merchandise in lieu of cash. Batt could switch over to Nike (which I prefer), but I'm not sure it would change the business decision.
  • Joining the Big10. I think it makes more financial sense to join the SEC (longshot). As it stands now, if the CFB playoffs were decided today, the SEC would have 4/12 spots and the Big 10, 2/12. Not to mention the SEC title game(s). And a heck of a lot more local coverage.

The biggest problem with leaving the ACC for any conference is that GT does not have any television rights to bring to the table, as has been discussed before. Every ACC school gave the broadcast rights to the ACC until the mid 2030s. If Ohio State plays GT in Atlanta, the ACC would get the money from that television broadcast.

The Big10 does have a research and academic arrangement among their members. It would be a good fit for GT academically and with respect to research. As I said, the biggest issue is that GT signed away all of their rights to broadcast revenue until the mid 2030s. The Big10 might be able to make more money from TV subscription rates, but would not get to broadcast any games controlled by GT. Unless someone is able to wriggle a way out of the GOR, or the ACC completely implodes, it won't happen for at least 13 years.

If ESPN wants the ACC to self-destruct, they can make that happen.

The collective ACC schools own our TV rights, not ESPN. ESPN could dissolve the contract with the ACC and the other schools would still own our rights until 2035. You'd have to convince them that we should get our TV rights back so we could ditch them and move to greener pastures...

Are there any 'outs' in the ACC GOR contract? Any opportunity for a school to claim material breach?

I understand.

I will surmise my personal opinion on Deion. It's a no for me.

Maybe. ESPN is in decline at the moment. There have been talks (only outsiders as far as we know) about Disney splitting off ESPN as a separate company. ESPN has been downsizing and getting rid of expensive talent. I don't know that their perceived power in sports is actually true now.

Also, there is no way that they would do something to open up the South to the Big10. ESPN walked away from the Big10 broadcast rights because they either couldn't afford it or thought they couldn't get a profit at that price. Going forward, I think that ESPN will do everything they can to make everyone except for the Big10 attractive. There is no commercial reason for them to prop up the Big10. My impression is that they don't do sports objectively. They try to push for whatever makes ESPN the most money, whether it is truthful or not. Giving the Big10 access to Atlanta, Florida, or North Carolina does not help ESPN.
