We are all upset at a kid BECAUSE HE DISAPPOINTED US. I realized we often live vicariously through these young men, but one of the goals of college sports (once upon a time) was to provide a vehicle for SA's to mature, develop, and hopefully grow up. Give Jabari some leeway. He might need the process a whole lot more than, say, his brother.
He didn't live up to the hype, but what is disappointing me or any fan is of little importance. He disappointed and let down his teammates. What he did (or didn't do) on the field matters not at this point. He fell behind in the classroom and missed a year of playing with his brothers. To follow that up with doing something selfish to get suspended for 2 games is beyond dissapointing and further proof of the lack of leadership on this team. He was/is a guy that the younger kids should be looking up to for guidance, not as an example of what not to do.
All I know is if he were my teammate, I would be pretty upset. I hate losing and seeing something like this happen towards the end of the year makes it look like he doesn't care (whether that is a fair assessment or not). And if it is what most seem to think it is (mj), than that means this is not his first offense. If I remember correctly, 1st=slap on the wrist, 2nd=2 games, 3rd=kicked off the team.
I'm sure this comes off as harsh, but put yourself in the shoes of a freshman DL or even Justin for that matter. Sitting at 3-5 with some momentum after beating the #9 team only to find out that a 5th year senior got suspended because he couldn't wait until Dec to enjoy some recreational activities. So when I'm saying some of this stuff, it's coming from the competitor in me.
I wish Jabari nothing but the best in his future endeavors. I hope he cures cancer or invents something to provide clean water for underdeveloped countries in a cost effieicnt way. I will continue to pull for him and the rest of the guys the rest of the way, but I still think he let his teammates down. I think Paul has given him plenty of leeway of which is great. Like you said, it takes some kids longer to grow up than others and we don't know everyone's situation. I'm sure he's learned a lot from battling back to get eligible, but if he did get suspended for what he's rumored to have been suspended for, that's just selfish IMO.
