I guess it's easier to convert to "option" than to convert to "modern"

The offense has scored 52 points in 4 games... That is 13 points per game. That is going to rank around dead last in the country, because Rice was averaging 13.5 points per game but just scored 20 yesterday where Georgia Tech offense scored 0.

Georgia Tech has 7 touchdowns on the year. Some interesting numbers:

Army scored 7 touchdowns in 1 game this year. Navy has scored 45 and 42 in single games this year.

In Paul Johnsons first game after converting to the triple option, the team ran for 350 yards and 6 touchdowns against Jacksonville State.

In game #4 this year against Temple, the offense put up 0 points and 305 total yards.

In game #4 in 2008 running 3O for the first time against Mississippi State, the offense put up 38 points and had 440 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns, while passing for 63 yards and a score. 503 yards of offense.

Somehow Willie Fritz was able to pull it off at Southern after Monken left while simultaneously taking Southern to the FBS level. Willie went 9-3 (8-0) against an FBS team with literal FCS players that had been taught to run the option - 2 losses were a 1 point loss to NC State and a near victory against our Orange Bowl team. Either Willie is the best coach to ever grace a sideline (doubt it), or there are some questions that need to be answered, specifically regarding P'nut.

You keep repeating this as if it’s apples to apples.

Give the OC 2 All-Conference OLineman like Center and a starting NFL RB and see how much easier the transition would be

PJ's scheme was great at taking athletes other schools didn't want and making us competitive with other schools on our level. This scheme? Not so much until he gets his players into the system.

We were an overturned incomplete pass that became a fumble recovery from losing that game against Ga Southern. JT led a tremendous late winning drive in that game. We haven't had a QB like him in a while. He could run and throw. I thought Fritz would be a good hire for us. There are similarities between us and Tulane. Both good academic schools. Both left SEC about same time. Both independent for a while. Both in the heart of SEC region. He has his work cut out for him at Tulane like we do but I think he will really improve them. He will likely move on at some point.

Running an offense that NO ONE in the P5 ran. Of course you’d see positive results when you basically a gimmick.

That offense is not a gimmick... it is probably the most efficient offense ever created and it guaranteed to work if executed properly... The better players you have, the better it works. Every player thinking they can play in the NFL basically killed it in major college football... but its still out there driving coaching crazy and putting up impressive numbers... Just like Coach Boone said in Remember the Titans... "its just like novocaine, just give it time, it always works"... And it does.

Willie is a very good coach.

To answer the OP’s question, I would think it would depend on how good the new coach would be for the goal of accomplishing the job at hand. On things like experience, knowledge, organizational skills, ability, demonstrated level of competence, etc.

Here's the difference:

CPJ had a 4 star top 10 dual threat QB that was perfect for his offense. Where's CGC's 4 star top 10 dual or drop back passer?

CPJ had a 4 star RB that he himself described as the perfect BB for his offense. Where's CGC's 4 star RB that's perfect for his spread offense?

CPJ had 2 future NFL OLs (Andrew Gardner, Cord Howard) and a 4 star OL recruit (Nick Claytor). Which two OLs on our current line do you think is going to the NFL, and where's the third OL that's a 4 star recruit.

CPJ had a future first round NFL pick at WR with Demaryius Thomas Which one of our WRs is a future first round pick?

That's a pretty dang loaded offense.

Oh, and by the way, the defensive side was LOADED with future NFL talent. That 2008 DL was one of the most talented DLs in the country with 4 future NFL draft picks included a 1st and 2nd rounder. Suffice it to say, we would be hard pressed to find an NFL DL leftover from last year's team.

CPJ is the first person that will tell you physical talent trumps coaching schemes.

This is not a dig at CPJ, it's just pointing out you're not using an apple to apples comparison.

Before the season you voted we would win eight games this season. We’ll now be lucky to win two games and you seem perfectly fine with that. What’s changed? Not calling you out, genuinely curious.

I don’t think any of us are saying that we should be 9-3, but the offense is absolutely terrible. There have been zero bright spots. There have been zero signs we have any idea on how to move the ball. We lost two straight games against The Citadel and Temple. What’s worse? We never were ahead a single second in both of those games. That’s not simply a talented issue.

Against FBS we’re scoring 9 points per game.

Nobody is forcing our coaches to run an offense we don’t know how to run. They could have kept most of the same offense in play while they get a different type of player into the roster. They’re the ones that for 9 months could see what we have and what we can run, and they’re scoring 9 points per game against FBS. CPJ could win almost 8 games a season with those players over the long run. The only reasons to have a bad record this year are:
1) Bad coaching.
2) Don’t worry about winning, but rather play your future offense even if you don’t have the personnel.
3) Injuries.

In my own opinion, we’re seeing a mix of all 3.
