Couldn't we field both men's and women's teams to no be hurt by this?

It would help us, just not as much as just adding a women’s program on its own. If a school is 60% male, then they just need to “cover” women’s sports at 2/3rds the level of the men’s sports. A university like FSU that’s heavily female needs to supply more female than male sports. (That’s not entirely accurate, but GT has less title 9 pressure than schools that have a larger,female population. Schools provide equal-ish opportunity based on their population)

Agreed.

Luckily, I think King will show up this year. Last year he was supposedly dealing with a persistent groin injury that never got time to heal - but from what I hear from his high school days, he's got a tremendous leg on him. Fingers crossed!

Thanks. His career at the top might have lasted longer if he had been willing to prepare for different offenses.

I'm pretty sure that the answer is yes. I think the correlative question is how much extra cost is involved given that they are typically non-revenue sports.

IIuc, men's soccer has 9.9 allowed scholarships and women's soccer has 14 allowed scholarships. Then you have to deal with salaries for coaches and staff etc for each squad.

I do wonder whether soccer might be a revenue sport for GT, but it's hard to predict that.

I'm of the opinion that while creating a soccer program probably would not break even with respect to costs initially, it could be leveraged to generate additional interest in GT. When you consider the amount of club soccer teams/players in the metro ATL area, having a D1 program in in downtown ATL could reach some that considered other schools. Add in the number of international students from parts of the world where soccer is the #1 sport, you have the makings of having it become at least cost neutral in the future. Tie ins with the Atlanta United FC could help also.
