How Much Time Does Is Reasonable To Evaluate CDS?

A lot more than a few million - buyout Hewitt, further erode our brand with Gregory, Pastner, and Stoudamire's budget hires. Parlay that with Bud Peterson turning down our Big Ten invite in 2012.

It's just gaffe after gaffe after gaffe from athletic directors at Georgia Tech. I'm hopeful for the future w/ Cabrera and Batt but woof.
If folks are concerned in winning in conference play? When the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) came out, in early December, I compared Tech's ranking at 170 among the 364 DI teams against all the conferences. What I discovered was interesting. Then, we would lead the following conferences, allof which get automatic bids if they win the conference tournament.:
MAAC (currently Marist leads)
OVC (Moorhead State leads)
Patrioit (Colgate leads)
SWAC (Southern U. leads)

FYI, my hometown Augusta University joined the MEAC with their golf team, the remaining sports being DII. They won the national championship in 20110 and 2011, and have been in the NCAA tournament every year.

We were last in these:
Big12
Big 10
Big East
SEC

and 14 of 16 in the ACC.

Since a hopeful guarantee by joining a weaker conference to in the 68-team NCAA tournament by winning a conference tournament seems a bit against the brand and plans of Georgia Tech, I will stick with my expectations of sustaining the current average of a 20+ game winning season and a tournament ever 4 or 5 years. Currently in the real world, we have the academics of the Ivy League and the basketball of the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference. I suspect there will be these conversations of frustrations for years to come.

If this season continues like this, we will likely have a huge roster turnover. Baye would have left last year if he was going to be drafted. Who knows who will stick around with a very attractive transfer portal available.
Not going to try to justify the current situation in any way, but in today's game I am not worrying about turnover/transfers from this team. That attractiveness for guys leaving also has attractiveness for guys coming. Lot of examples of large roster turnover these days.

I mean I don’t see any way this ends well. We are unlikely to get better next year. And whenever he goes most of the players are gone too. If you give him another year you will kind of need to give him two…which just seems like delaying the inevitable.

Let them go if they are tied to him. Hit the portal for a new roster.

Javian can be a real shot maker. Terry puts his heart into every play and is effective. Just seems to me that this team coulda thrived with more scripted sets rather than CDS’ floor spacing concepts. Without Brown, Tatum, White and Horford, the floor balance and dribble drives are CLEARLY not consistently there, resulting in ugly late clock shots. Hindsight is 20/20, OTOH an adaptable coach is hired to see these things before the fan base. Hopefully, CDS learns, but his recent presser feels like he’s even in it-may-be-too late panic mode - we’re 17 games in and he’s not getting it through to the guys. Pulling for CDS, but he shoulda leaned on more coaching Sets, rather than Player Reads.

I gotta believe there are solutions to our dilemma. I see other programs bouncing back into Tournament contention after being in the dumps. So, it can be done.

I have no idea of CDS is the guy to get us there. All I know is someone can, if we have the right person. I believe J Batt has already shown institutional support by expansion of the ocahcing staff and NIL funding. Maybe not to the Auburn/SEC level, but surely enough to get us what we would need to be competitive.

Something’s not working. I’m not smart enough to know what, but we should and could be better.

Completely agree, for God's sake Auburn and Tennessee have become national powers and Clemson and Georgia have become very good. Meanwhile we sit here in the middle of the ATL and can't put together a winner?

He does have assistant coaches doesn't he?

  1. Worried about our basketball performance in year two of CDS? Absolutely yes, but barring anything bad happening like a scandal, give him more time at least through Year 3 and we fans need to contribute to the NIL.
  2. Confident in CDS getting the GT men's basketball program turned around (defined as middle of the ACC pack competitive) in three years? Not really based on the body of evidence so far, but I want to be proven wrong.

You've gotta think that Karl Hobbs is in his ear about things like this.
