If folks are concerned in winning in conference play? When the NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) came out, in early December, I compared Tech's ranking at 170 among the 364 DI teams against all the conferences. What I discovered was interesting. Then, we would lead the following conferences, allof which get automatic bids if they win the conference tournament.:A lot more than a few million - buyout Hewitt, further erode our brand with Gregory, Pastner, and Stoudamire's budget hires. Parlay that with Bud Peterson turning down our Big Ten invite in 2012.
It's just gaffe after gaffe after gaffe from athletic directors at Georgia Tech. I'm hopeful for the future w/ Cabrera and Batt but woof.
MAAC (currently Marist leads)
OVC (Moorhead State leads)
Patrioit (Colgate leads)
SWAC (Southern U. leads)
FYI, my hometown Augusta University joined the MEAC with their golf team, the remaining sports being DII. They won the national championship in 20110 and 2011, and have been in the NCAA tournament every year.
We were last in these:
Big12
Big 10
Big East
SEC
and 14 of 16 in the ACC.
Since a hopeful guarantee by joining a weaker conference to in the 68-team NCAA tournament by winning a conference tournament seems a bit against the brand and plans of Georgia Tech, I will stick with my expectations of sustaining the current average of a 20+ game winning season and a tournament ever 4 or 5 years. Currently in the real world, we have the academics of the Ivy League and the basketball of the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference. I suspect there will be these conversations of frustrations for years to come.
