How Much Time Does Is Reasonable To Evaluate CDS?

Hewitt's ACC record:

Before the contract: 39-41 (.488)
After the contract: 28-52 (.350)

People blame the contract. It wasn't the contract, it was Hewitt. Had Hewitt not pulled a bait and switch on Gt and continued to perform at the level he had established over his first 5 seasons, GT would have been fine.

Did DRad architect that rollover clause? Atrocious.
MtnWasp is correct that Braine wrote that contract right after the NCAA Champiosnhip runner-up season. It was DRad who persuaded Hewitt to turn down an offer from St. John’s one year before he had to fire him. Drad did cost us a few million with that bone-headed play.

A lot more than a few million - buyout Hewitt, further erode our brand with Gregory, Pastner, and Stoudamire's budget hires. Parlay that with Bud Peterson turning down our Big Ten invite in 2012.

It's just gaffe after gaffe after gaffe from athletic directors at Georgia Tech. I'm hopeful for the future w/ Cabrera and Batt but woof.

The Paul Hewitt contract hurt the program badly, but its been over a decade. CDS and the team appear to be so frustrated that collapsing as a functioning group is likely. Baring a major turnaround, J Batt will need to make a career defining hire of a new basketball coach.

The contract was reasonable at the time. The yearly salary was near the bottom level in the ACC. Hewitt had just come off an NCAAT Championship Game. He continued to recruit well for several more years. Once Jack left there was no one getting the team organized on the court.

And NO $7 million in a buyout did not kill GT BB. As I said elsewhere since the 1985-86 season, GT has had 4 seasons where they won more than 8 Conference Games. Yup 4 in 40 years! GT BB has been bad for 30+ years minus a few good seasons.
GT Leadership needs to do what is necessary to make Basketball a Winning Program. GT has never made that a priority!

His coaching ability is very suspect at this point so getting A-level players is monumental. We are losing our top 2 scorers this yr (Mc and Terry) and the Fr big man savior is gone.If he doesn't replenish very STRONG , somehow ,he can't last.

I was thinking the same thing,we can't trust Ndongo, George, to lead team as juniors next year. The player I see with the most upside right now is Mustaf. Our team needs a leader like Haynes King that can carry the whole squad. We must get veteran portal help at PG,SG, Center next year.

If this season continues like this, we will likely have a huge roster turnover. Baye would have left last year if he was going to be drafted. Who knows who will stick around with a very attractive transfer portal available.

CDS looks on the verge of resigning at times to me. He seems to have a pretty good NBA brand. I don’t see him hanging at GT and severely damaging that brand.

What hurts is that I was at all three of the wins on that three game W streak and the team was actually FUN to watch. Idk how they reverted back to the ****ery so fast!
In honesty can't really be to thrilled about those wins since we were supposed to win, but if we're looking for optimism that's the political thing to point out
