Every (nonprofit) public organizations pool of funding is usually coming from just a handful of people (Whales). This is true for almost all non profits, not just athletic associations. It’s still the same at Clemson, FSU, & others that have IPTAY & noles club or whatever. That method simply serves to enlarge the pool overall - it doesn’t remove the whales or their antics.

You are just entirely removing the context and nuance from understanding this is TULANE, the "bad years" he was putting up a couple years were some of their best ever seasons. You've gotta contextualize the job my man.
As a Tulane alum, I can vouch for this. A coach who wins half his games could get into the hall of fame. Fritz is the best they have had since Tommy Bowden went undefeated and left for Clemson. I graduated 50 years ago plus and I think we had been to three or four bowls in that time before Fritz took over. The guy has done miracle level work at Tulane. He ought to stay there because they love him. I can see on this Board that he is too old, just a G5 non-entity, has had one good year and can't rebuild a program. I would give the job to Brent Key, but Willie Fritz is no run of the mill person or coach.

From a non-big-donor perspective I’m in the “rip the bandaid off” camp for one very simple reasons: the current “big money” people, if what’s reported is true, are used to getting their way but are not actually able to spend enough to make GT competitive on their own. The AD has been sinking while using this model for 20 years, relative to the competition.

Risking the entire program failing is already happening, it’s been happening, and it’s been happening on the watch of the people who have been involved longer than Batt or Cabrera. “I’ll take away my money” doesn’t have the same scare for me when your money isn’t enough anyway. We either need to engage others or we just die. So if you don’t want death, get on board with trying something new.

If this is all a “throw a fit to sabotage others and get Key in place” thing, I don’t know you can even do a quid pro quo there - have you negotiated, or have you just shown that you will be under their control in the future too?

I was wrong about Ken, the AJC etc. . You were right. I was wrong. I just didn't think Ken would run a story saying it was a done deal. Just the worst. Every news outlet ran with it. Unreal!!
There is a lot of pressure on reporters to be FIRST. Being first with a story gets links from Twitter and from other media outlets. It drives traffic to the news site and sells ads. It isn't isolated to Ken, and it isn't isolated to politics nor sports.

In my opinion, Ken does an outstanding job on human interest type stories. He finds and puts together stories about players' lives, obstacles that they have overcome, and accomplishments outside of football.

You are absolutely correct. The challenge for the AA though, was that Peterson has set up Development Offices in every College/School at Tech to create legacy funds. He did NOT insist that the AA do it and I think that was a huge mistake. If Cabrera can create the same intensity to raise money for the AA that the academic side has, Tech will do very very well. It knows how to raise money ... it just hasn't tried to do it in Athletics.

We'll need 1,100 of us giving an additional $10,000 per year to make up for the two big donors that Vespidae mentioned. That's a lot giving a fair bit more.

I'd love to see the chart, but I bet the top 20 givers to the GTAA give 50% of the total. Just a guess, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Donors are very similar to regular fans...they just have a LOT of money. Do you know how some fans threaten to not buy tickets or attend sporting events or withold from giving to GTAA? Guess what? Big donors do that as well. I've heard some donors either quit donating, or don't donate as much as they want because they felt past administrations would just wasted their money. Lots of donors have a wait and see approach...there's a reason they're rich. They're very prudent with their money and don't want to see it "wasted" on bad decisions. A lot have also been turned off by the favoritism for a certain group.

Batt and Cabrera know this. If they can change the culture and the way GTAA has operated under previous regimes, GT will see more money coming in.

I'm still not convinced that this "info" wasn't leaked to Ken on purpose just to gauge fan reaction and prevent a Greg Schiano scenario...

Woah, didn't expect that. I would guess this thing will hit 350+ if the announcement doesn't come until after the conference...hey, wait a minute. You know something, don't you? I know you know something....

If us mods merged a few related threads with this one, we could hit the over in a hurry, or if we locked this one....
