To be completely fair, this was gonna happen no matter who we hired
Not sure thatā€™s the case. One of the articles on this site listed numerous potential candidates and Fritz had no support. If one of the top 4 were chosen, it would likely not be as much head scratching and disappointment with the pick.

Just to clear the air on this a little: TStan made that hire in an absolute vacuum without anything resembling a formalized process and that's why he got fired. He should've been fired years ago, but water under the bridge. The old boys club wasn't consulted at all last time.
If this is true and he wasn't fired last year or the year before, I'm stunned.

It was clarification from Ken. Not a "full" retraction.

It's also a contradiction of his earlier tweet.

First tweet: deal in place, likely Fritz
Second tweet: no deal, probably Fritz
Tulane beat: we saw him around campus all day every day for the last week, what'd you do, interview him over skype?

Feel Batt is making this more complicated than need be. If Fritz is his best hire after all this time, then that is disappointing and makes me question his judgement. Key is hungry, has rallied the team, has plenty of upside to turn things around. Give him an incentive based contract and letā€™s move forward. We need to secure a decent recruiting class and retain guys we want on the team and we need to do sooner than later. All this time we are pissing away is not doing any benefits for the program, the team, or the fans.

Per Nola.com,

ā€œā€¦ the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Georgia Tech had offered its coaching job to Fritz and was trying to get him to accept it immediately, and that if he did not agree to it Sunday, the school likely would move on to other candidates.

Fritz did not respond to a text message asking for clarification, but a source close to him said there had been serious discussions with Georgia Tech but no deal has been reached.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the pressure for a quick resolution from Georgia Tech is to prevent as many Yellow Jackets players as possible from entering the transfer portal - a new reality for teams in coaching flux. Georgia Tech fired coach Geoff Collins in September after he started 1-3 in his fourth year, running his overall record there to 10-28. The Yellow Jackets won four of their final eight games under interim coach Brent Key, who had been the assistant head coach/offensive line coach. Key was considered a finalist for the full-time job along with Fritz and Alabama offensive coordinator Bill Oā€™Brien, among others.ā€

You are taking an awful lot of rumor as fact to judge JBatt. Most of the rumors have already been proven wrong. Maybe it's not JBatt that's making this complicated. Maybe it's everybody else.

There is no evidence Fritz can recruit at P5 level
These types of comments make no sense to me. Thereā€™s no evidence anybody can recruit at the P5 level until theyā€™re given the opportunity to do so. People were saying the same thing about Chadwell, itā€™s dumb.

Itā€™s like saying about a minor league baseball player, ā€œthereā€™s no evidence he can play at the Major League level.ā€ Yeah no ****. He hasnā€™t ever been there before. But if heā€™s continued to be successful at lower levels, heā€™ll probably have success at the top levels, too.

Thereā€™s no evidence Deion can recruit at the P5 level either. Most of his players have come via the portal. You canā€™t build a winning FBS program relying on the portal. Deionā€™s Jackson State team thrives on former P5 players dominating typical FCS and HBCU talent. You canā€™t do that when youā€™re already in an FBS conference.

The schools themselves will dictate most of the recruiting. For a school like Tech, thereā€™s about a 30 spot window where we can recruit, which is anywhere from 20-50. A good recruiting coach can consistently land in the top portion of that window, and a bad one will be at the bottom. Somewhere like Georgia, Ohio State, USC, etc will have a window from 1-25. Somewhere like Tulane or Coastal Carolina has a window from 50-100. Basing a coachā€™s recruiting abilities on their rankings at smaller, less recruitable schools is stupid. Tulane has pretty consistently recruited right around the 75 mark since Fritz has been there, which puts them right in the middle of their expected range. I would say that mean Fritz will be able to recruit in the ~35 range at Tech given that information, which is definitely enough to win a lot of games.

FWIW, according to 247ā€™s team taken composite Tulane is the 7th most talented team in the conference. This year they beat everyone who is rated ahead of them besides UCF who is #1, and they get another shot at them in the conference championship.
