...since Haynes King.

Maybe I'm different than most other fans, but I offer my full support (and give my love as well, to speak specifically to this thread) to whichever QB is leading us onto the field. Or is stepping in when the QB1 is down.

I've had some favorites over the years. And Haynes King is a VERY good QB, and I'm so glad he's on our team. But damned if I didn't say the same thing after Zach Pyron went down the field and upset Virginia Tech (and played with a broken collarbone, too). Or when Synjyn Days came in to play behind Tevin Washington, then fought it out with Vad Lee for a year before moving to A-back. Or when Joshua Nesbitt suited up for the offense he wasn't recruited to play in.

Point being, King is a damn good QB. I'm so thrilled we have him. But for me, I love each of the Tech QBs, and always will.
...except Lucas Johnson III, he can kick rocks.

I get that some of you are old and I know Lothridge was great

but you're REALLY gonna leave Kim King hanging like that? he was a part of GT athletics for nearly 40 years.
I don't know what it means to "look athletic" but when you watch him run (when fully healthy), he runs away from DB's, even those with angles at times. We may have had QB's possibly as fast as HK (JT, Joe H come to mind) but none faster on the field of play. I love the Goose and he is in the second tier of all time GT QB's but athletically speaking he wasn't HK. Haynes has the kind of elite speed that scares defenses and coordinators.
Next year if HK has an oc that will trust him to pass deep to talanted wr and tall te that can. GO GET the ball, this will be a great thread. The coaches thought the 6'5" wr blackburn to recover. They did not expect 6'5" TE Sithers to get injured. So HK had to run the bawl or throw to slot recievers.
HK and oc played super conservative and beat a top team (fsu) , another top team ND, and then opened up (300ydsw downfield passes to back up te and wr) to play uga into 8 0t.

We will have tall wr and te to get the ball.

did he steal your lunch money or refuse to give you his signature or something? He wasn't a good QB but he was mostly injured and otherwise tried, I don't remember anything negative other than poor performance on the field. Not like he wore red to a mutt game like Taquon.
Just a poor QB who I didn't like. I'm sure he's fine as a person, I wish him well. But boy am I glad he's no longer at Tech.

Are u kidding?

In 19 the moron TFP, took over all qbs andxrunners to play the cpj but he tried the rpo. TFG let him touch the ball 80 times and you think he is a bad qb.
He left for Sandeigo state and road pine in 20.

By 21 TFP had Sims with Gibbs, Jordan Mason and Dontae Smith but instead he had Sims be the focal point.
3 rd year of 3-9 ( Key was furious that we would not " run the bawl" enough.

But in 21 Johnson was the jouneyman run and pass qb who earned his chance at San Diego state. He lead them passing and running to the 5th out of 130 fb team w/l record of 12-2.

Sorry, i had to bring up numbers.

Imo, if in 21 we had have "Johnson" , Gibbs, Mason, Smith. Imo, Sims fits your description of a " only me" qb.

Happy to hear his story had a happy ending.

I liked that there was no hesitation in his answer "Yeah I'll probably come back". He left the door open for other options, but sounds like he's planning to be QB1 next year.
Yeah no hesitation. I’m sure he can’t answer for certain with agents and contract negotiations. But he wants to be here . That’s a Tech man

It’s some folks on here whose underwear got moist when they heard that word “probably.” A lot of folks favorite player will always be the backup.

I was having a similar discussion with a GT fan buddy of mine and I am not going to put Haynes King above or below any of our beloved QBs. But the one that he reminds me of the most in terms of the circumstances under which he took over the starting job at GT are most similar to Shawn Jones. If the guys I remember (I go back to Dewberry).

Shawn came at a time when we absolutely stank. And he, along with his teammates and Bobby Ross and the rest of our coaches led us back out of that. HK came at a time when we had stank for 3+ straight years and he and his teammates and our coaches are leading us back out of that. I’m not comparing the way the two of them play the game or their physique or skill sets. Just similar circumstances.

Joe actually came in right after BL but Donnie Davis played in George’s first year and then Joe took over the next year.

It just occurred to me we went from our starting QB being Zach Gibson to Haynes King. That might be the biggest jump we've had in a long time.
