ehh technically yes, but that's a pretty big stretch. Gibson only started 2 games at the end of the season because Sims had quit and Pyron was injured. He was never going to be the best in the room.

We don’t have to take the wayback machine far—less than a decade. The last GT quarterback that got this kind of love was Justin Thomas. He was electric to watch.

As for the last time we had this many good QBs, we have two or three right now (we’ve only seen two play on the current roster). There were a couple of times we had two QBs that could make the offense him under Johnson.
As for Hamilton and Godsey, it was a few games after Hamilton graduated before Godsey won the job; we were platooning QB’s and he had a problem with his throwing motion that Friedgen had to fix—it wasn’t all that clear that he would turn out well.

Back to my comparison to the situation Shawn Jones inherited when he started, Todd Rampley was his immediate predecessor. Todd was a great kid and tried really hard and I appreciated getting to talk to him while I was covering the team for The Technique. He also didn't have as good a supporting cast as Shawn had overall. I do think the jump from Zach to Haynes King was probably a bigger jump, though.

The Shawn Jones/Donnie Davis duo back in 91/92 was probably the best duo we’d had in my lifetime. I think, talent-wise, better than Joe Ham/Goose Godsey, though maybe not on field production. We dropped off right after JT5, so that tandem with Taquon Marshall never really materialized.
