Now I pray this doesn't age poorly and King doesn't transfer but based on how he's spoken about Tech and his current NIL setup I doubt he does. Part of why he loves it here is that our fanbase has rallied around him in a way I haven't seen in a while. I'd say in my lifetime, the only two quarterbacks who really connected themselves with the fans were Nesbitt and JT.

I have been watching GT football since 1980.

In 44 years I have not personally seen a QB or player in general with as much heart as Haynes King.

The only player that comes to mind who might be close would be Kelley Rhino.

Not possible to be precise.

From 100-0 to UGA 8 OT where he accounted for 500 yds and 5 TDs after rehabing shoulder while playing. Barring his injury we could have been in cfp ( acc ish teams w no injury qb = Scuse , Clem, Miami, ND, Vt).

I am waiting for next year.

Justin Thomas was a baller - he won Tech a lot of games with big plays - two that come to mind without even thinking about it are Ga Southern in 14 and Duke in 16. Pass for TD on 4th down after avoiding untouched blitzing linebacker (Ga Southern) and Duke 70 yard run from end zone when again blitzers were block free after him.

I guess there's some recency bias in some of these posts, but I've been a GT fan since 1990.

Shawn Jones will always be my guy, and he led us to multiple wins against UGA PLUS a Natty.

Joe Hamilton wasn't beloved when he first started as a redshirt, but by the time he left, he was legend. JoeHam was involved in some wars with Miami and FSU...I can't count how many times I saw Joe Ham get crushed by Miami's and FSU's defenders (back when they had defenses stacked with future NFL Hall of Famers), and get back up to for some more. Those are the games I thought of when Haynes King was playing against UGA.

Josh Nesbitt was the definition of tough. There's literally a meme of him and how his expression never changes. The shots he took, and the shots he dished playing in that Flex Option offense are legendary. He willed us to wins. His will to win kicked started so many memes and inspired so many sayings about him.

JeT reminded me a lot of Joe Ham in that he was undersized, but kept coming right back after every hit. Both Josh and JeT were tough in different ways, but tough nonetheless. One thing JeT, Nesbitt, and Haynes all had in common were they all kept out of the spotlight off the field, and let their play do all the talking.

The only thing Haynes King is missing from his resume is the wins that Nesbitt, JeT, Little Joe, and Shawn Jones all had. One thing King has in common with Jones is their role in bringing this program out of the ashes. That means a LOT. Haynes doesn't play second to anyone in the history of GT football when it comes to his desire to win, and take the best shots from the other team. This dude will literally play broken and bloodied for this program. When you make a room full of lifelong UGA fans sing your praises, you know you're doing something right.

Haynes King is quickly becoming one of my favorite GT athletes in any sport. That said, for me, King still needs a signature season like Jones in 1990, Hamilton in 1998, Nesbitt in 2009, and JeT in 2014. He'll get another season to do just that in what's setting up to be a possible special season in 2025.

I’d say Shawn Jones. Remember SHW put him on the basketball team because the students and fans “weren’t ready to let him go?”

I said it in another post. HK has joined Shawn Jones and Joe Ham in the absolute top tier of GT QB's in my lifetime. These guys just have all the tools but more importantly, they have the 'it" factor that is impossible to describe but you know it when you see it. There have been any number of good to great ones (Dewberry, Godsey, Justin Thomas, Josh Nesbitt come to mind immediately) but if you had to win one game as if your life depended on it, I think any of these top 3 would be your "go to" guy. I can't differentiate between them myself.

We have been blessed with a lot of incredible college QB’s. King is just the latest and he’ll be followed by another one. Jones won a freaking Natty and there Wasn’t anything he couldn’t do at QB. Just watch the Citrus Bowl highlights. Hamilton couldn’t be stopped. Godsey was a godsend. Thomas won big game after big game. Washington ran the system to perfection (while our defense didn’t). Nesbitt was a dude on a NFL talented GT team. King pulled our program out of the ditch.

All were fantastic for GT. We’ve been blessed with QB’s. It’s been defense or coaching that has cost us years.
