Except that this UGA team is a whole lot better than that one and the 1998 team is a whole lot better than this one with a healthy Joe Hamilton at quarterback as opposed to an injury riddled team with a quarterback that seemingly cannot throw a pass more than five yards without enduring pain to his shoulder.
That 1998 team beat four ranked teams including UGA and Notre Dame. Not a bad season's work but they had players that could score in a heartbeat if you did not play really good defense like FSU did in their only loss of the year. Tech played Maryland at Maryland. I was watching on television with a Georgia fan who was curious about Hamilton. Tech was ahead by a couple of scores right before the half and Maryland had the ball. They did not get a first down and prudently on their side of midfield decided to punt. There was less than a minute to play and my friend commented that Tech might have enough time to get in position for a long field goal. I told him normally you would be right but Hamilton, being Hamilton, is going for a TD. Sure enough with just seconds to play he hits a receiver near the goal and the player goes in for a touchdown. My friend said, he (meaning Joe) is absolutely fearless. Yep.

McConkey & Bowers were both injured and did not play against us. Without them uga had to play differently than with them. I don't think it was conservative, just less potent.

Well, Heisman is in the college hall of fame and has the most prestigious trophy named after him as well as having a long list of All Americans and All Southern players that helped him with things like setting the all time record for points scored and a national championship He was nationally famous for his innovative "shifts" in the backfield from one side to another. Newspapers all around the country showed photos of him with a small megaphone calling out to his players: "Hop lads hop, you must learn to hop like a chickadee" Anyway, it worked
I like our high standard, the low one, not so much.

So, if Beck is crushed and is out for the rest of the season, does that mean uga will be dropped from the CFP?

This was in the heart of bulldog country where every third shopper has a dwag sweatshirt or hat.
I got that beat. A couple of years ago we were visiting relatives in Alabama during the week of the Iron Bowl. I went jogging and as it was rather cool donned a Tech long sleeved shirt blue and gold as it happens. When cars would go by, people stared at me as though I was an alien from outer space. My inlaws who are all Auburn fans asked me who I thought would win and who I was rooting for. As a born and bred Yellow Jacket for the past half century I replied truthfully: "Its a shame they both can't lose." My wife was not happy.
