Thanks. I thought I read somewhere that there would be a post-camp depth chart released today but that may have been a joke. Obviously it can change at any moment though.

If CPJ sees any of the freshman as a starter next year, I think they should burn the RS. That's JMO but I think it would do wonders for them going into the offseason on what to work on whether it be from the mental or physical aspect of the game in preparing to be a starter.

CPJ said coaches would start to set the depth chart today. It was variously interpreted.

Y'all are bringing up some very good points. Considering who may transfer for a 5th year is relatively new also. I have confidence the staff will no doubt look at every angle of the redshirt scenario and make a decision about what is best for us.

Classes Begin as Season Opener Closes In

Training Camp is over, classes are underway, but Georgia Tech practiced as usual on Monday afternoon with the calendar reading just 17 more days before the reigning ACC Coastal Division and Orange Bowl champions open their season.

The Yellow Jackets got a break from the heat and humidity during their brisk two-hour practice in full pads on the Alexander Rose Bowl Field. Monday’s workout concluded with the Jackets going 11-on-11 in third-down situations.

“Practice is practice, but this is the hardest week to me,” said head coach Paul Johnson. “You just have to stay in the moment. School starts, but the season is still three weeks away. At least next week you can see it coming. This is a hard week to push through.”

Tech enters 2015 with some holes to fill in the offensive backfield as the two-headed B-back duo of Synjyn Days (924 yards, nine touchdowns) and Zach Laskey (851 yards, nine touchdowns) each graduated. True freshman Marcus Marshall (Raleigh, N.C.), Stanford graduate transfer Patrick Skov (Guadalajara, Mexico) and junior Marcus Allen (Hilliard, Fla.) have been the ones to watch, with the 6-1, 235-pound Skov turning heads after some bruising runs in Saturday’s scrimmage. He finished with eight carries for 86 yards and two scores.

“Right now Skov and Marcus Marshall are on the same line and Marcus Allen will be right behind them. We’ll sort it out. We still have two-and-half weeks, but all three of them are going to play.”

Coach Johnson also announced Monday on his Twitter account (@GTPaulJohnson) that junior walk-ons Isiah Willis (A-back) and Chase Alford (linebacker) had earned scholarships for the 2015 season. Willis hails from Marietta and is a Lassiter High alum, while Alford is a product of Conyers and attended Heritage High.

you are making the assumption there is zero attrition for one class for 5 years..,..that is NEVER the case. With how our school/classes work, that class that is 21 or 22 is really 18 or 19 by the time they hit the RS Sr year....which is why we can do this. Kids leave after year 4 for a job, they transfer etc etc...so to me its a non issue.

Our 2015 class has 27 names according to Rivals. If the news about Benson is correct, 26 are in classes this week. Since you were off by 5 in the class size, let's add that to your 18-19 RS Sr year ... wait for it ... 23-24.

I said 20-23, so I guess I stand corrected? Smh

one class isn't a trend. I am talking trend...."that class" I refer to isn't this years...its the trend of decisions. If we have 26 this year and RS all of them (not likely, lets say best case we RS 23...by the time they are RS Sr that will be 19 with attrition...so thats the point. Maybe you are saying the same thing.

i think you are misreading that second post totally. I was interpreting what another poster said, that 3 FR will play sp teams and the rest play both backup roles and sp teams. That was me interpreting ANOTHER post for ANOTHER poster...not what I am saying.

I did say I hope we play as few FR as possible. So I stick by that. And so for me playing as few true freshman as possible means playing only 3-4. And if we RS the rest then that leaves us with 22 or 23 RS Fr. Of which historically we will lose a few to attrition 3-4 over the next 5 years...maybe more...which means that graduating class will be around 18 or 19. So that is my math...and so as such, I still hope we play as few true fr as possible...again, I would love to see only 4 true freshman play.

Is that doable? Probably not. AJ Gray will play. So will Brad. So will one of the DTs. And I am thinking a LB And AB may sneak in on top of 1-2 others we can't totally predict right now (maybe Meiko). So its a moot point. But I would love it if that number was 4...with this classes talent maturing it would be nice to have extra years.
