So this is probably a minor concern, but Philo can only play in 1 more game before his RS is burned. I'm hoping that King can heal up and we don't need Philo against both NC State and Georgia. Then, maybe we get him a few plays for the bowl game. That kid is going to be very special for us!
I agree. Personally, I would consider starting Philo against NC State and give King another week to heal, unless Philo is ineffective. For UGA, we would have a relative healthy King and Pyron to play, and keeping Philo' redshirt.
Other side of the coin, if Philo is as good as he appears, he probably will not be playing college ball past his regular junior or senior year anyway.
I trust the staff to make the correct decision, considering Philo's input in their decision.

So, somebody explain something to me. On the play where Liami was finally and mercifully called for targeting.

The initial foul was not a face mask but 'illegal hands to the face' - a 5yd penalty.

Did I hear that wrong? Seemed a clear and obvious face mask - 15yd penalty. At worst, it was 'hands to the face' and a face mask.

What gives? Or did I hear it wrong?
The hands to the face was on the DL guy who also grabbed the FM. That DL committed 2 penalties near simlteaniously. The official didn’t call the FM penalty. There were 3 fouls on the play. No impact as they were all live ball so only one can be assessed.

Agreed. The other aspect that I've thought about is that if King comes back next year (which I think he will), we could RS Philo next year. But I'd much rather him get that RS this year just in case something happens next year to King.

Philo can be effective if our OL can block and we have 2 of Haynes, Cooley, and Alexander healthy with Carrie as a 4th. Got to rotate those guys. In that case, Philo has to be able to run 12x for 36-40 yards to make them respect it.

Philo will not be here 4 years. He’ll be in the draft in 2027 not on a college campus anywhere. Need to use him while we can and find his back up ASAP.

Maybe, but the question I see is will Philo will be willing to sit out another full 8 games next year? If King does come back, it will be tough to keep them both happy, but we need to prioritize keeping Philo who is our future, in my opinion.

This. I think it’s more pragmatic than cynical to think he’ll be at GT that many years given NIL and NFL potential headwinds.

We need to play well to secure the all important 7th win against the wolfpack and prove consistency in the role of a favorite.

Then give the mutts hell. Smoke ‘em if you got them.

Yeah but my point is, if they determined it wasn't targeting, that would've only been a 5yd penalty.

If King comes back next year, having both Pyron AND Philo being on campus next season is unlikely. My guess is that Zach would graduate and decide to play 2 seasons than sit 1 and have a chance at starting 1. But I don’t think Philo would leave if he is the apparent backup QB his RS freshman year (or even his sophomore year). The kid coming in from Oklahoma is looking pretty interesting too.

If there are portal entries from the QB room after the season, I would expect it to be Knowles, then Zach. Graham would be a transfer; Zach would be a grad transfer. No issues with either and would wish them all the best. I love Zach, but he needs a chance to actually play if that’s what he wants first.

I rewatched the game last night. What a great victory. Both the offensive and defensive lines played out yesterday. An excellent game on both sides of the ball.

An observation...

What a violent game. Defenders on both teams were punishing the ball handlers. However, the Canes were laying in a lot of dirty hits. 41 should also have been ejected for targeting. Two other defenders should have been penalized fir late hits when they jumped on our players while they were on the ground. After 99 got ejected, the rest of the team went up to him and was laughing and congratulating him for his dangerous hit. Just a disgusting display and one of the reasons I hate Da U so much. Ef em.
Thugs be thuggin’. They were head hunting the entire game, trying to knock guys out.

I think they were trying to send a message and beat on us some for last year. They also expected to beat us into a 4th qtr submission. I thought they stuck with the run too long while trying to impose their will physically.
Turns out, we were the tougher, more physical team.

I think Pyron leaves as soon as he graduates if King comes back. I am not aware of his academic level with respect to his degree but Philo will be the backup if King stays. If King leaves then Pyron and Philo can battle it out for the job. Philo does not appear to have the running ability that Pyron has but is a superior passer. King adds an extra dimension with his running ability that neither has. That will be hard to replace. Pyron is good enough to play at a lot of places.

I thought that after the first one, but then I thought what’s really the downside? It gives you a chance to break one and if you don’t, it gives you more field to chew up clock and keep the other team off the field.
I was thinking about it later and similarly I bet he was coached to take it out for this game. Key wanted to be aggressive in terms of taking risks but methodical in the offensive drives to eat clock. As you mentioned, Singleton taking it out does both. It is a risk to take it out but Singleton has the speed to bust it for a TD if the blocks are there. Then if not he likely has one more set of downs available in yardage to eat more clock.

For a mid/deep passing game that can be the lead dog for this offense, it will require our WRs develop the ability to get better separation. We can scheme ways to open up WRs by using tunnel screens, smoke routes, slants, rubs, wheels, etc. for 5 to 20 yards downfield with YAC to generate chunk plays. We do that pretty well.

I think Philo will be the starter if King transfers again. I love Zach but I doubt if he can beat Philo. If he wants to start next year, he should transfer since he will have his degree. Philo definitely has more passing ability and makes better decisions in my opinion. And I am not sure if he can't run the ball as well as Zach. Philo certainly seems to scramble better and hit receivers when pressured.

Be happy we had one hall of fame coach while getting no support. followed by worst coach in history of college football and now we are probably back with another hall of fame coach.

Why cant some people just be happy.
Amen brother! Amen!

Unless King gets a career ending injury, he comes back. I don’t know what his NIL is, but a ‘regular’ job would be a pay cut.

I don’t see Pyron returning either. He has two years left and he may end up downtown.
