We're peaking in March which is what you want to do, but even flashes of this kind of play in January would have us in the tourney. We played on a different level than Houston and they knew they were outmatched

This is why you want to evaluate the field of NCAA teams by including their record down the stretch. Tech clearly has blossomed as the season went along. Good for them and I hope they bring home the championship.

Yeah, so the way the NCAA teams are selected is stupid. Here's the way the rules SHOULD work:

1. Win regular season conference championship, you're in...period, doesn't matter what conference (the fact that some of these teams end up in the NIT is crazy to me)
2. Win conference tournament, you're in ...period, doesn't matter what conference
3. For the teams that are left, pick the best teams...not the teams that are most deserving based on crap that happened back in November and December...the BEST TEAMS

Right now, Tech is better than a bunch of teams playing in the NCAA tournament. Are we a top 25 team? Probably not...are we a top 68 team? Yes...

On a positive note, that game was a lot of fun to watch. I said to myself after the game that I didn't remember us ever beating a team by 19 in the post season...the reason...it hadn't happened since I was a year old...

I really wish we had Adam Smith for another year...that guy is incredible. That three he made on the four point play was just ridiculous.

With that scenario, we still would not get in. Conference champ and regular season champ would almost double the number of automatic qualifiers.

Fun game last night. Was in section 102.
Nice to see some positive play from Lammers and Tadric.
We need to be grooming Tadric to play similar to what MGH did this year.
Lammers is coming along nicely - wish we had redshirted him his FR yr. He's more fluid than Daniel Miller was. He's also quicker in his decision making. Once he makes his mind up to score he is looking to dunk the ball - no fade aways, no soft shots, make the defense make a play on you.

Great way for MGH to go out. Corey's three at the end was great and the bench went nuts. Given he is on track to graduate and I expect him to move on i'm happy he was able to get into the game and make that shot.

Let's see if we can win in Columbia.
SC has suspended 5 basketball players indefinately (looks like they may have been involved in a robbery ring). Their top 7 was not affected, basically it was all the end of the bench players. Much like GT, SC is mostly upperclassmen.

I'll make one other comment. The staff has done a nice job of keeping all the young men involved. The body language, even on guys who have seen their playing time cut is good, that is not easy to pull off all the time. Gregory and Herrion do almost all the game strategy. Herrion is a pretty intense guy. Mamadou and the Player personnel coach do alot of the talking to the players on the bench. Dollar looks good in his suit.

The 1-2 give and go sequence off the screen between Lammers and Smith was some of the prettiest basketball I've seen from this team in a while. Lammers really showed a lot of nuance and skill in the 2nd half of the game. Makes you excited for his future. Ball movement was great, and guys just standing around looking at the ball was minimal.

The last half of the season really makes me scratch my head. Why have we waited this long to put the ball in MGH's hands at PG? This season probably looks a heck of a lot different if CBG does that from Game 1. All those close losses may be wins. MGH's level of play has risen, and so has the rest of the team's.

So here we are...20 wins!

Looks like there may be a few teams in the NIT that are significantly better than some 15/16 seeds in the NCAA.

always the case due to little schools having a "right" to get in...thats just life. If the tourney just selected the top 64 regardless of tie-ins and automatic qualifying, all the sports liberals would say its unfair; lets face it, the tourney has a component of socialism to it LOL

 Hey, somebody's gotta look good in a suit. Kinda like the GPA guys always on the ends of Kentucky or UNC's bench.

Pulled these links from SCar's site regarding their suspended players.

Sounds more like they were 'destroying property' using a high-powered BB gun. Apparently shot out someone's windshield and shot at a few more cars. Since the cars were occupied, and they allegedly shot at individuals IIUC, this is actually relatively serious. On was charged with assault/battery.

What a complete game! Everybody scoring at will... Sweet dishes... Lammers stuffing shots left & right... Mitchell getting his buckets down low... Even Jackson drilling 3's!

And with that 19-point domination -- the biggest post-season win since 1985.
Wow, the biggest post season win since 1985! Don't think so, there's been several better one's since then.

I was a great game to watch and Lammers' performance provides some hope for next year. I gotta wonder if Houston, being on the road, having played one game in 2 weeks, and coming off a bad loss to Tulane which they felt burst their NCAA bubble, was not prepared or motivated for this game. Houston shot terrible and it all can't be attributed to our D.

Anyway, perhaps we are going to make a run. USCe still has their guys suspended for Monday, I presume.

BTW, the crowd at the VaTEch game was crazy, unlike most other NIT crowds this week- very excited for post season, although surely there was nothing else going on in Blacksburg and maybe they want to enjoy a good team while they have the chance, since Buzz is probably headed West.

You're comfortable with the MEAC and Southern Conference being multi-bid conference?
